I'm curious why you'd cut meat out? It's easily one of the best foods out there.

Well I suppose that's a valid enough reason, though I've always only been half way there personally. A lot of the cheaper meat like in grocery stores isn't going to be all-too-ethically sourced, but if one can afford good meat from well-treated animals I'd think they actually had a better life than they might have in the wild. Animals are pretty damn hardcore in the wild.

Meat's always been an interesting thing to question for me because it's part of the natural cycle as it's been for millions of years, so I think the issue is just the treatment of the animals. In any case, should you go that route, just remember to make up for the protein and saturated fats somewhere.

I definitely will...one of my sisters was a vegan for over a year (before she got pregnant) and she got smaller than me but she is showing me all the different things you can eat besides meat that fill in the gaps etc. We are doing baby steps no one has noticed I have switched us to mostly ground turkey meals (spaghetti for example) I'm going to have a good day and stick to my plan...

I have discovered that certain foods are becoming easier to avoid or resist..

Cookies and chips...definitely, I mean if I am going to eat one I just eat the one that's it...but I haven't slipped up yet. ^_^

Well thank god school is almost here so everyone will be back and I will have more time to myself :0 ugh....it can't get here soon enough shit...

Well changing things up started my 3 mile runs in the mornings

    I don't usually eat until 11:30-12

    So I have a window...I have a smoothie for breakfast/lunch and a boiled egg...then whatever dinner is ....

Limit my portions really...on the plus side of this is that I have gone from an 18 to a 16 jean size and I haven't gain any weight from summer (usually about 10 lbs) I have lost I think between 5-10 lbs this summer alone :)

Finally got a scale and weighed myself aaaand.... I weigh 15 lbs more than when I was last weighed. So in less than a year, I have somehow gained 50 lbs. I went to the doctor in the past to ask about it, but was laughed at and dismissed because "you're so small!"
I insisted on seeing if there was bloodtests for conditions that can cause rapid weight gain, and nothing came up on whatever was tested for.

After learning I've gained another 15 since then.... welp, going to a different doctor tomorrow for a consultation to see a specialist. I feel my weightgain is really abnormal :S

Well I know if a thyroid quits it can cause weight gain (this happened to my dad) it's something to look into I suppose but by no means is it what's happened to you but let me know how it goes...

I'm officially at 210.0 (after eating) and I can tell my my fave is thinner which is awesome I can actually fit into my mom's pants lol xD couldn't at the start of summer my thighs were too large. I included a picture of my thighs in size 16 shorts mind you I was unable to fit into these comfortably in March/April so the legs are starting to get baggier and the waist is pretty comfortable now (was too tight before) I'm going to start running when everyone is back at school 3 miles a day and work my way up see if I can do 1 extra per day...see how far I can push myself...I realized I have a habit of eating the same things lol at least I like the way eggs taste xD time to get the legs toned and work on cardio...anyone else have plans for the next month? Mine are to stick to my eating regime and working out getting up and actually doing things on a good day I can burn about 1800-1900 calories

    Feel free to comment

Hey ya'll. I LOVE whats been going on here in this thread. I work in the public health field and I am as serious as anything when I say that this kind of supportive stuff that is happening on here is a MASSIVE motivator and booster to people looking to lose weight, even for people who aren't posting and are only reading.

Something that I would like to throw out as a suggestion though, while it is admirable and seemingly desirable to cut our high cal and high fat foods from ones diet, it can potentially be detrimental to your goals. No, you won't drop dead or anythign like that. But when your body is used to your diet, simply cutting something out such as meat might make your body go into a starvation preservation mode where it will actually hold onto more nutrients than you were originally and that would cause you to actually gain more weight.

A more sustainable way to alter your diet would be portion control. Decreasing the quantity of the bad foods over time and increasing the quantity of good foods at the same time. Cooking (when you can) and trying new things and new seasonings, NOT BEATING YOURSELF UP FOR EATING CRAP WHEN IT HAPPENS, and drinking more water than anything else are great ways in a diet controlling sense to lose weight.

Thank you for saying that and yes I have been trying to (about the meat issue) I want to but it is literally impossible to do so I have a ton of meat in the deep freezer (that thing is huge) so I do think want to waste what's already been bought I mean come on an animal died to feed you :( don't make it in vain...

Yes I have cut back on portions like a crazy person I have been eating a lot less but when your in a house where let's see 3 out of five people and another sister (she's estranged) has diabetes it's enough to scare you. I don't want diabetes$!! :0 I try to limit myself on the bad foods so I try to do the serving size when I eat them that way it's not too bad...I mean 150 calories worth of chips when you are walking and burning about 1,800 calories a day isn't too bad right? I am excited because in a week everyone will be back at school and I can go back to my workouts without anyone being home yay. :I summer is exhausting I would like to get to a size 12 or a ten but I wanna aim even lower than that I would like to be 150 by xmas...or even 135 fuck I have a long way to go but I need to remember it won't fall off in a week and if that number goes up a little don't get discouraged.... this has been a helpful thread at least to me it has... :3 I really like challenging myself and I feel better when I have made a better food choice (getting fruit instead of candy) I do not buy candy anymore it's so bad...I do however drink way more water and I'm getting close to cutting out soda completely. No I will not give up alcohol xD but I don't drink like 9 at a time I have about 1-2 like probably 2 times in a month I have switched to bud light lime it's actually my favorite I'm thinking of trying the new orange one because I like blue moon and shocktop Belgian white...so hopefully it's a better solution I have decided not to get the 30 pks because who needs that much xD

I'm genuinely curious if you'd be willing to detail what you're referring to a little, as an individual with what is I believe is fair to call a well-above-average interest in health and wellness, both mental and physical. "Starvation mode" has, in my experience, been a bro-science term I've come across that's never actually supported particularly well by the scientific literature on the topic, but it sounds to me that you're alluding to something a bit different than what the phrase usually refers to. My only guess I can make from the content of your post is that you may be referring to the (well-supported-by-evidence response of) lowering of metabolic rate in response to a caloric deficit - the one which ultimately leads to the failure of the CICO-only model of body composition - as opposed to the bro-science eat-all-the-time-to-stimulate-metabolism thing, but it's possible there's something different you're speaking of, so I'd love to hear more of what's in your head.

Along with what Zaph mentioned about thyroid, I just want to put a really-out-there possibility just for the sake of covering bases, and it brings up something that's probably related on some level anyway; an extreme rarity is for someone to develop an insulin-secreting tumor, which effectively guarantees significant weight gain in a short time regardless of the best efforts against it. If you're doing blood tests, I'm curious if you've covered fasting insulin levels yet.

Not a medical professional, just a curious dude who likes the topic of health.

I'm so ready to get back on this I have some good ideas for my routines....

Morning runs then clean the house and then do a 3 mile workout (walk away the pounds)

I have the Brazilian butt lift xD my sister gave it to me but I got some weights and the weighted balls too (lol) and so now I have 1 lb weight 3 lbs and I think 5 lb weights and some stretch bands and a few other exercise equipment stuff let's do it...

Anyone else working on their own bad habits?

I have noticed a lot of the weight I'm losing is in my upper thighs so that's finally starting to show along with the weight on my face...as can be seen...

I did buy this 3 ballerina tea to try and see how it works

If I'm looking at the right one, it's just Senna tea. It's an herb commonly used as a laxative. Enjoy them if you do, and consider a recommendation thereafter; tea or coffee of your choice, with cinnamon. Cinnamon is surprisingly effective at helping with insulin sensitivity, especially when consumed in the range of 2-ish grams a day. Instead of just emptying your bowels, it's helpful in maintaining control of how your body handles energy storage. It's one of many such useful little additions that can help with healthy insulin levels and sensitivity, without diving deep into the unnecessary supplements side of things. There's plenty of cool pills out there - I find alpha lipoic acid fascinating for this topic - but the best stuff is cool diet tricks first, like said cinnamon.

Hope you don’t mind if I offer a different perspective or take this as me being preachy! I was a vegetarian for 2 years about til recently, I fall off the wagon and don’t look to be getting back on immediately. :( Gourging like crazy.
I went in it half because of animal cruelty and half because the state of our environment. We use an alarming amount of resources towards meat, the remarkably highest being with red meat/beef (I imagine that’s the push for lab meat). Even cutting that out alone and keeping poultry and pork in your diet is considered to be an environmentally conscious move among the more friendly and understanding vegans/vegetarians.
In other words, things haven’t stayed the same after millions of years so some people are trying to counteract that. However small that may be.
Again hope I cause no offense! Just thought I’d offer a different reason some might go vegetarian other than for dieting itself.
Personally I didn’t experience weight lost myself but actually gained a couple pounds so I’m not sure what the benefits are else wise. But it should be noted I’m at my ideal weight so maybe that diet helped me maintain somewhat? Who knows! Good luck to everyone trying to lose weight! I know it’s not so easy to change up your diet and habits.
