As sad as it is, I've found out that resumes rarely get you an interview. It's knowing the people in the place who can connect you with the right ones. I'm currently job hunting, but haven't heard back from any of my cold sends (even with follow up phone calls). However, those jobs where I had a friend contact someone inside and then sent in a resume I heard back from very quickly. I guess it just depends on who you know, not necessarily what you know for that interview....you know? lol

There is a lot of truth to that.
Luckily, one f the jobs I applied for I know a couple people. One of them (the one who referred me) is my new neighbor. So I hope she still puts in a good word for me. :x

Yeah. Doesn't matter what you know or how many degrees you have, just who you know. *sigh* Which explains why I suck at job hunting.

Kitzmiller vs. the Dover School Board is one of my favorite stories ever. The sheer volume of butthurt in that one is hilarious. And the Nova documentary does brilliant work of showing how ridiculous that whole shenanigans was Also, the judge's ruling was so excoriating that it seriously raised the bar for what schools could and could not teach regarding "intelligent design;" mostly: nothing at all.

Have you called back? You gotta call at least a week later to show them you're still interested in a position there.

But really, almost every time I call back, the person on the line sounds pissed and says its still not decided.

Haha yeah. I feel like if I have to call to inquire about the job, it makes me feel like I am bugging or being too persistent about wanting the job. ; v ; It seems some people have success with it, though.

I wound up being off work SUPER early today (at around 9am) because a bunch of people are all going to a funeral for one of our contractors (whom I admittedly didn't know very well, so I opted not to attend). Since I managed about 10 hours of sleep over the last two nights, I thought I'd have a little nap. Turns out, that equates to sleeping from 10:30am until 3:00pm. Ooops. c:

I've only ever had one job my entire life, it wasn't very glamorous either (cashier at Luby's cafeteria).

For years during summer break I'd fill out every job application I could get my hands on, but never got anything. It kind of bummed me out so I decided to change tactics, the very next day it was pouring rain and I almost decided to stay home, but I forced myself to go out. I was a bit damp when I walked into the Luby's restaurant, the place was pretty dead and I asked for a job application. Lo and behold as I sat there I noticed a man beckoning me over (it was the Manager) he gave me an interview on the spot and said that if I made it through the second interview with another Manager the job was mine (she approved of me too) and that's how I netted my first job.

There really wasn't any reason for them to hire me specifically, anyone probably would have been better (I saw that huge stack of filled out applications). I was still in school, had no car, no previous work experience and not a single skill relevant to any of the tasks they would need me to perform, but I believe it was nothing but my attitude and willingness to do a good job that convinced them, and I proved them right.

Crap. I typed more than I wanted to, but it all boils down to this. When an employer can meet you face to face, even for a moment, they'll get to decide if you're going to be a boon or a curse in their place of work and none of your qualifications will matter.

Bit of a rant here, sorry.

But someone posted a video on my fb of a cop shooting a rottie...repeatedly, and the dog was trying to get back up, it was heartwrenching.
WHY for the love of god, is it considered acceptable to shoot and KILL a dog for doing nothing more than barking because strange people are harassing his owner?
I have a German Shepherd, he was bred and TRAINED to protect me, and to alert me if someone is approaching us or our home. I now live in fear of taking my dog out anywhere because a douchebag cop could kill him with no other reason than 'He barked at me and I felt scared.'

Boohoo. My dog barks, rarely approaches and has never hurt a living soul in his life. I know that some animals are aggressive, but it's not rocket science to know when a dog is protecting vs. attacking.

And even so...theres tasers for a reason??

It makes me sick to think of all these poor animals they kill. If anyone hurt my dog, you can bet they, and their whole family would be dead.

I've hated every job I've had, except the year or two I worked as a valet. I can't deal with being stuck in the same area, doing the same thing day in and day out. My first two jobs before being a valet were like that and I quit after a week.

Like my valet job, if I found a job where I was sent to multiple locations, with the assignment being different everytime, and meeting customers. I'd be set. I'm really considering that flight attendant job with Delta.
