What Is On Your Mind?

Contemplating what it means when somebody wants different things than you want. Sometimes you both end up doing something together that you think is supposed to make you happy, because it does, doesn't it? It's funny how the reason behind an activity really changes what it means. If you're doing it for different reasons, it's much harder for both to be happy. Today I'm trying to be an adult and accept that sometimes, doing something for the reason (and the way) somebody else wants to do it, as opposed to the reasons (and the way) you want to do it, is okay. Sometimes, it's okay to be on different pages and have different overarching goals. Do it for the other person, give them what they want, don't worry that it's out of your control. Sometimes, you just have to accept that even things that are important to you, are okay to let go of in order to do something good for somebody else.

On another topic - it's gonna be a loong Friday xd The fact I'm sitting here on my mobile right now proves that there is almost 0 work.

 

Reading a journal on FA about someone being really upset that artwork of their character is being used as avatars on other sites and drawn by other people. Of course there were a lot of comments about how stealing is bad etc, but that made me think about artists for characters on television. What makes it okay for me to draw my Steven Universe fan art when I clearly don't own any of the characters, but the moment someone else draws Misskin, I'm allowed to report them? Do televised artists somehow lose their character rights? If I publish a web comic or tv show are people suddenly allowed to start using my characters in their art?

Wow, that's a loaded question.
One with few satisfactory answers ether. Especially with digital art these days.

 

It's all to do with copyright. It's a complicated issue, but then again it's the law, so that goes without saying. It's about what's called intellectual property. You can't "technically" sell art which is the intellectual property of someone else. I'm not sure how the law deals with creative works, what I know about creative commons relates to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and that offers a variety of specific conditions under which somebody else's intellectual property can be used without express permission. I can't say if traditional art is covered under that, what I know about the DMCA relates to videos (youtubers using clips or footage for reviews, rebuttals, discussion, etc.). There are laws governing intellectual property and who can do what with it. You are the owner of Misskin, and you essentially have a kind of copyright to it. Once a show made for TV you do lose character rights I believe. Also when you post your art on the internet and do not have it officially right protected (which costs money) then it is free picking for anyone to make there own rendition of it.
I think this is why I stopped posting art online because I had enough of people stealing it or trying to past it off as their own.

 

I did once stumble across a character that looked a lot like Misskin on FA, nearly same color palette and fluff placement, but their character art was a few years older than mine so I didn't worry about it

OH YES.
I was at an interview for a job today and this very monday they want me to begin. Although it is only as a trial run to see how well I fit the job the manager said that there was good chance I would be able to continue for the long run seeing as the holidays are getting closer and people going on parental leave and so on. Even if I will start as an extra on weekends and such I'm thrilled as hell!

 

The sun is slowly creeping through my window. I have not been to sleep yet. Tried, but to no avail.

My eyes hurt.

 

*yawn* Friday morning. Looks like the clouds are breaking. That's nice. And I'm looking at a weekend off with no one else here.

 

Bwah. Got the afternoon off work because I have a head-ache, throat-ache and uterus-ache and am.grumpy and tired as fuck. Home in bed now... Can someone come over to bring me tea and cuddles?
