He is only my second dog as an adult, and he's only half as smart as my first one. He has good common sense, I will say that, but trying to teach him anything can be a real chore. Especially tricks, I have to be really really patient. I adopted him, so I think he may have been abused when he was a pup. He was missing the last four inches or so of his tail, when I got him.

 

ah, well I've managed to teach my dog a few tricks (speak, whisper, shake hands)
the easiest way to teach a dog a trick is to observe something that they do naturally then modify it to become a trick.

 

Yeah, he can handle simple stuff, 'roll over' we are still working on (after a year or so?).
CJ's name sake, Cujo, was the smart one, and a total joy to have as a dog and buddy.
He could do like 20 tricks, individually or in combination, with ether a verbal or hand sign command. He could understand a large number of words, and could even pickup something small for you and throw it in the trash. He lived to be almost 18, and I found him and his sister abandoned, shortly after they were weened. He could stand in my hand then, and grew to be around 50 lbs. He looked like a Rottweiler pup, that is why I named him Cujo. LOL

lol, everytime it comes on and he says Good Morning, I squint my eyes and say Not For You , then change the channel LOL
