Okay so Chrome (my long time favorite browser) was being a bitch, and when I tried to reinstall it, it was an even bigger bitch so I ripped it off my computer for good and instead got FireFox.

When I went to log back in here, I was surprised that most of the forum sections/threads are open for anyone to see, and was just wondering if we could maybe set more of them to private? I think the adult sections already are but...maybe the toy discussion and pics section as well as the sharing expirences should be also? (Especially cos there can be NSFW pics in those threads too)

It's my suggestion that everything in the 'General Discussion' area get set to private also though...mainly because I have huge hang ups with privacy and stuff.

well this is a forum centered around toys, which is already adult in nature...hmm...what would that leave viewable?

 

I wish it were similar to Facebook, where you could set it to "Public" or "Members Only" on each post.

My concern isn't necessarily privacy, but that there isn't a gateway (at least on my end, I don't know about how other people's are) where you have to select that you're at least 18.

Because there's not that, I think we should make anything with 18+ material hidden, not just the adult boards.

And I don't honestly think of this place as centered around adult toys, I think of it as centered around a community that happened to be built on one about adult toys. So yeah, we talk about it, but I mean it's not like BD where they need their sharing experiences viewable to those who aren't members. We aren't trying to sell the toys, so we don't need non-members to see them like endorsements.

That's just my 2 cents though.

 

I dunno about that. I really think that the toy forums should be viewable, considering that, even though the community isn't reliant on them, it's really the central rallying point of the community here. I really can't think of anything else every single person here feels the same about, so maybe it's more of a foundation than you're giving it credit for.

However, I DEFINITELY think we should have an age wall to even enter the website. Perhaps another course of action is to discourage "personal" images in the toy forums. If we could have some sort of "members only" check box for images, or even require membership to view any images, that would be a convenient way of controlling it.

 

It's not like I'm saying that adult toys aren't central to how we all met and came to be... But I honestly think that the other thing we all have in common aside from adult toys is friendship.

Well, I would disagree and say that this forum is (although not as much) centered around toys. I mean....that's pretty much how it all started in the first place. We didn't just stumble upon the original BD forums because we were looking at posts about cats.

And also, I don't really...see a reason to have most of the threads open to the general public? I mean, it's not like this is a PRIVATE forum. Essentially anyone can just sign up to join. It would just make me feel better to know that my pics (NSFW as well as otherwise) are not just for anyone to see who happens to be browsing. I mean, I have a diff username here than all other sites I go on...lol I don't really want people seeing my face and then knowing it's me. :x

 

Members only being able to see images is easy enough to do, well, for uploaded images at least, not sure about hot linked ones. As far as an age gate, there is a modification but it works on a per-board setup as opposed to being the first thing you see when you visit the forums for the first time.

 

Honestly this board isn't centered around toys.
If you look at the Toys subforum compared to the General Discussion subforum, the difference in numbers is astounding. There have been 67 topics created between "General Toy Discussion", "Sharing Experiences", and "Help, Questions & How-Tos". On the other hand, JUST the General Discussion board has 75 topics. And post count? General Discussion has 10x the number of posts as General Toy Discussion (9,357 compared to 946).

I think if you were to remove the toy discussion from this site, people would be upset, but not nearly as upset as if you removed the general discussion.

Most people don't come here every day to talk about dildos, they talk about what's on their mind and how their pets are and their hobbies and art they're working on and their jobs and their family issues and their depression. Yeah, people here talk about toys. A lot of the people here own sex toys. Sex toys and sex toy collecting is how we here at BDC met. But what this forum was founded upon was another forum dying. For me, I joined not because I need advice on a toy or need anything about Bad Dragon or other fantasy websites. I joined because I didn't want to let go of the amazing group of friends I made over at BD.

I think that camaraderie and friendship is what is central to BDC. And toys happen to be our mutual hobby.

 

Okay true...I guess I would consider this forum to be based on...sexuality then? Because the adult and porn thread still seem to be fairly healthy lol.
And if this forum is (as you said) not centered around toys, then I feel like the Sharing Experiences and general toy sections should DEFINITELY be set to members-only, since that's not what this forum is based on, and there still tends to be some NSFW pics in there.

Yes, I agree with this. If it's even possible to make pictures visible for members only then I would vote on that.

 

i would agree on the members only seeing pictures. at least the uploaded ones. linked ones are a little more iffy since internet is internet. ive not uploaded images here (yet) but it would be nice to help members feel a little more secure. a checkbox like Facebook has would be convenient but might be a tricky code (or am i thinking a little too far? XD) or simply having members only seeing uploaded images.
