Ebola outbreak Texas

I hope that everyone who is in Texas is ok seeing as the news has just reported that they have allowed a Ebola carrier to wander around Texas.

Wait!? What!? We must protect her somehow? Do they give the Ebola vaccine for free?

 

I'm not sure about vaccines, but from what I hear the CDC have a pretty good handle on the situation.

 

Surely not because this situation shouldn't have been able to happen in the first place.

 

He apparently wasn't showing any symptoms at the air port, so that's good. And they claim to have identified everyone he's had contact with since the symptoms started.

 

But you can't because anything he touched or areas he was in will be an Ebola war zone. Because it is transferred via liquids such as sweat etc.

 

To be entirely honest, the differences in environment between ebola's origin (West Africa?) and America are completely different. In that environment, any kind of pathogen is extremely dangerous, even the kinds that we take for granted and shrug off within a couple of weeks. I wouldn't worry too much about it, the media is prone to sensationalism.

 

Is there even a vaccine for Ebola?
I don't think there is.

And also: why the HELL are we not closing flights to/from Africa where the disease is?!

 

Because stopping flights costs the big wigs on airline companies to much money. That's why trade etc is still allowed in Africa because money is more important than people's lives.
I do believe there is a cure but I am not 100% sure.

I mean, the US is not like Africa. We don't share the same water containers and community baths. We have access to soap and water, hand sanitizer, healthcare and medications. The disease is not airbourne, which is really good news, otherwise it would be all of texas right now.

Everyone, pop your vitamin c and zinc daily and be safe. I heard by January, it will either be largely contained and over with, or thousands of people will be dead.

 

Well I do hope everyone will be safe. It just amazes me how much they fucked up all because there is supposedly a cure they became lazy. If it is anything like the zombie outbreaks have taught is nothing can really be contained.

 

That an interesting thought. At what point do they think it's a good idea to stop flights.

no vaccines as of yet but I really wouldn't worry about it. here in the US we have a lot of things that rural west africa doesn't, namely modern hospitals, isolation units, and relatively easy access to healthcare and sanitation products like bleach, peroxide, etc. why ebola has spread so quickly in africa is because there are a lot of misconceptions about it, people feel sick and assume they have the flu and go to work because they need the wage to feed themselves, also in some areas families hide their sick family members due to cultural stigmas about disease and shame. some people even think the aid workers and health officials are spreading the disease, so basically if you live in a developed country and somehow ebola pops up know the symptoms, go to the doctor if you feel sick and don't sneeze or drool or bleed on other people. also wash your hands, it's a basic hygiene practice that helps prevent tons of diseases.

basically don't worry about it too much, remember the "bird flu epidemic" and "swine flu epidemic"? barely anyone even knows about those anymore

OKAY EVERYONE, NERD HERE TO CLEAR SOME THINGS UP.

While there isn't currently a vaccine available for widespread use, there has been extremely promising research into a pair of vaccines that greatly increase resistance to contracting the disease.

Actually, those are supposed to prevent and shorten colds (which they don't do, and zinc supplements can destroy your sense of smell about as fast as cocaine).

Primarily speaking, the communities suffering Ebola outbreaks in Africa are NOT flying. They're small villages and communities. Africa's greater gap between the rich and poor is actually a huge benefit in this scenario, as it makes it harder for the disease to travel. Also, closing flights between the US and Africa would damage relations, and be completely ineffective as those people would just get transfers at other locations, spreading their virus there, and then getting to the US in a MORE contagious state. I'm going to go ahead and say it's impossible to get the entire world to shut down all flights in and out of Africa.

Ebola suffers have been cured here in the uk but under strict quarantine measures as well as the sufferer appearing on the news after his recovery. Unless that was another news cover up.
But yes the Ebola virus is transferred via bodily functions so if the sufferer is sweating which is most likely because Ebola has the same symptoms as a cold but is deadly unless round the clock care is maintained. But the surfaces the suffer had touched is a risk zone to.
Plus not only had said person gone to the hospital only to be discharged this said patient had also picked up his little ones from a local school and did other things before this news even hit the headlines.

 

Yeah, but he wouldn't have been contagious if he wasn't showing symptoms.
Also, it was reported that they are looking into his close contacts and keeping on eye on them for 21 days (the incubation period for the disease)

 

I've never seen a cold give someone a 101+*F fever, cause diarrhea, or hemorrhaging. you must have some wicked colds where you come from
