The Video Game Thread

Wouldn't be great if this joystick was doing the smash attack? But in reality it's not as powerful as the combo smash attack, would be too easy

 

This week's Nightfall strike on Destiny, annoying. And its not just who you're going against.

Modifiers are Epic (like Legendary difficulty), Lightswitch (enemies have instant kill melee), Angry (enemies are very aggressive and have boosted shields), Juggler (no ammo drops for your equipped weapon), and Nightfall (team dies, you have to restart from the beginning). No element bonus either. Normally they set it to where weapons with elemental ammo (Void, Arc, and Solar) do bonus damage. Not this week though.

 

I really want to play some shooter games but I don't know of any that I'm good at or don't get bored with within 20 minutes.

 

I believe It's just as powerful as an uncharged smash, plus it has little to no chance of input errors, and makes some advanced techniques (namely DACUS) much more possible. Even with all that said, my 3DS will be mainly for training while I'm on the go, and not having a C-stick isn't going to be a big problem.

 

What do you peeps think of the new CoD AW?

 

Questions for any Wii owners out there.

Instead of finding a refurbished N64, I thought about going out and buying a Wii so I can download the N64 games I wanted to play (Mario 64, both Legend of Zelda games, etc.) from the virtual console, or marketplace, or whatever its called. I'm just going to call it the marketplace.

My questions are:

1) How does Nintendo's marketplace work?
2) Are there N64 or Gamecube-like controllers that I can use instead of the Wii controller?
3) Are the new Zelda games worth it?

 

1) Basically like any other consoles marketplace, but a bit cryptic from my experience.
2) A Wii has gamecube controller ports and a WiiU has a purchasable adapter for gamecube controllers as well as many other possible controller options.
3) The newest I've played is Twilight Princess (which is pretty old now). Its a pretty damn good game and feels like a traditional Zelda title. All the elements you're looking for will be there if you're a fan of the Zelda series. Though not for console, I've heard only great things about a Link Between Worlds, albeit not from seasoned Zelda veterans.

Nothing really compares to Ocarina of Time… it's pretty well the greatest game of all time, so it'd be unrealistic to expect that.

Does the marketplace use actual currency or is it a point based deal?

 

I'd be interested to know this too. As much as I hate to admit it, AW does actually look pretty cool.

 

It does look good doesn't it. The graphics and some ideas are cool. But like typical CoD there are a lot of ideas taken from other games and movies.

 

I think either way, I'll be buying it for the single player anyway. Just not at that price. There's a distinct lack of solid games that fall into such an obvious category of cyberpunk/dystopian sci-fi IMO.

Edit: That said, I've just found it on sale for £26 (~$40). I think I may have to give into temptation. x.x

 

I stopped playing call of duty awhile ago, but this one looks better than anything recently, mostly because that jetpack thing. I'm the kind of person that never stops running so anything that adds mobility is nice. However I'm not going to buy it because it probably has the same problems as every other game in the series.

 

But CoD games are usually designed for their multiplayer aspect. Their single player campaigns are incredibly short. So it's money well spent if you play shooters online.

 

Oh, I do play shooters online, I'm just not very good at them. Although it's perfect timing to scratch that itch I have to play another shooter game.

 

I'm more of a single player type of gamer. When it comes to video games anyways. So all those online, primarily multiplayer, games are not for me. The only person I need to beat is myself.

...and that came out wrong. You know what I mean.

 

Oooh which console to get a ps4 or an Xbox one. I doubt they will be releasing games for PS3 in the near future. But the amount of spyware on consoles now is outrageous.

FYI, for anyone interested, Total Biscuit likes Advanced Warfare. TB very rarely likes games with a few gripes, but he says that it's "very Unreal Tournament-like" and "I haven't had this much fun in a CoD game since CoD 4". That is seriously enough to get me to buy it.

MS is basically butt-buddies with the likes of the NSA and GCHQ. That, and their devices and servers store a ridiculous amount of information about their users, especially when paired with things like Kinect. In my personal and professional understanding, I would say that it is literally borderline 1984. The only thing missing is that neither consoles nor Kinects are mandatory.

 

The original designs for the xbox one were that the kinect would constantly be plugged into the console to allow it to fully function. So it raised suspicions within the gaming community about the government using your console to watch and listen in on you without you knowing. Just like how you can hack into someone's webcam. This uproar made Microsoft change their design to allow the console to run without the kinect being attached or else they would have made a major loss on release. But rumours are that if you leave your kinect in it will still do what it's spyware inside was programmed to do.
