The Video Game Thread

I love games that have really substantial lore. I hate it when you come across a decent game that has practically no backstory or in-depth universe.

 

There's a difference between good and bad lore though. Mass Effect has great lore, it respects its own lore, it works it into conversation, it enriches your understanding of what's going on, and it creates opportunities. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, had terrible lore, despite R.A. Salvatore's involvement. All the lore was delivered in the form of spoken blurbs that come from locations you find, the spoken blurbs were spoken too quickly and play over the gameplay, making lore something they were content for you to ignore. It was mostly full of made-up names and was just hard to read in general. None of it was memorable and it was ore tedious to read than fun.

 

So the Goblins Vs Gnomes expansion for Hearthstone is pretty neat. Too bad I suck at the game anyway.

 

Anyone else looking forward to the next Kerbal Space Program update?

 

I'm more looking forward to the biomes (even though I could never get past the Mun, I'm so bad at the game)

I hope the next update they add after this includes communications satellites. It'd really be a good excuse to get practice sending up consistent rockets, and make the game so much more realistic and fun.

So I've been playing this fairly uncomon mmo on and off for about 9 to 10 years now. And for as long as I can remember I have this dude in my friendlist. He doesn't really talk or say much, but every once in a while, when my gear's durability appears to be low, he'll whisper me like "dude, remember to repair your stuff!" In poorly written English.

And I just logged in after about half a year, and he seemed to be on, so I inspect him to check his progress. (You can do that remotely when you're friends) And as soon as I check him: "dude, check geare! Dura gone!" And now I can't stop laughing my ass off, because it has been like 8 years, everybody I know is gone, and he's still there! Same old shitgear, hasn't leveled much, and STILL helping me to fix my gear. (You really lose it when dura hits 0, it breaks and vanishes)

If I could I'd really like to buy him a beer sometime.

 

Having one hell of a Melee training week... Going to have a bunch of friends over every day of the week except Wednesday to prepare for my tournament on Saturday.

I've gotten a lot better in the past few weeks, but it sort of sucks that none of my friends play Fox or Falco much... I need matchup practice and will 100% for sure be playing a few Fox/Falco mains. At least I think I've really figured out my Jigglypuff and Marth matchups... That'll be a lot of help.

 

Hearthstone anyone?

 

Anyone play Smash Bros on 3DS? I kind of suck but really need people to play with. Playing For Glory 1-v-1 is getting enormously frustrating but it seems to be the only way to mitigate the lag.

 

I think now that smash has come to the wii u players have abandoned the 3ds version.

 

Oh boy! Raids reset today! I can try for my transmog items on my Warrior and DK again. *boots I want for my Warrior don't drop from Heroic 25m Magmaw* Oh well, let's try on my DK... *runs Sunwell, finally gets the chest to drop but literally none of the other pieces for the fourth week in a row* Sigh... how can I have "good" enough luck to get Thori'dal to drop (on my DK, which is actually not a good thing) but I can't get a few plate pieces to drop?

 

WOO I got my first Legendary card in Hearthstone from a random pack.

Also, so far everyone above level 20 I've faced has killed me with a Ragnaros. What the fuck.

 

I have like $100'ish dollars of credit that I still have to use from the Beta, got in first round of invites, enjoyed it quite a bit then never touched it again. I really, really ought to start playing again.

I think the problem is I play it, and I just find myself wishing the Wizards would put this kind of quality into MTG Online (which is a steaming pile of trash).

 

I'm still relatively new to Hearthstone anyway. The highest class I have is a lvl 30 Rogue, and I haven't even played most of the other classes. I haven't spent any money on it either. Most of my collection is still made of basic cards.

 

I'm playing dark souls for the first time and my official opinion is that I hate and love it. Even though I like difficulty in my games, this feels more like an exercise in trial-and-error (which doesn't equal good design). I also have to mark off points for the absolutely terrible PC port it is, even though it's mostly fixed with a FAN-made patch. Still one has to appreciate a game that doesn't hold your hand and is actively out to destroy you and make you cry in a corner.

 

I just hate the combat system. Attack, jump back, repeat till all enemies are dead. Fuck that at least let me, counter once in awhile and not require me to have a perfect stance. The set up is just too rigid for my tastes

 

Hearthstone is one of those games where I'm like " THAT WAS SUCH BULLSHIT, I FUCKING HATE THIS GAME........Okay, just one more match." Seriously, fuck Priests and Mages. Such bullshit.

 

See, I'd rather have those problems than not, because then I have to learn the same things. It's WAY cooler to me that way.

 

I won the complete HexCells bundle during the steam bidding thingy. I really like this game. It's basically minesweeper but hexagonal. Pretty hard though, especially the second level pack thingy, and there is a third pack as well. gunna be hard.

 

You Kerbal guys are, no joke, insane.

I've learned so much about flight and orbital mechanics that I never understood until I played KSP. As silly as it is, it's the most realistic space game ever.
