The Video Game Thread

Man, Destiny is such a mess, I put a good chunk of time into it, but man, man, I swear to god Bungee has no idea what the hell they're doing with the property and just throwing darts at a board of idea's.

 

Theres a ton of things that needs fixing.

But the fucking Crucible (Destiny's multiplayer for those who don't know) is just ridiculous. Who's idea was it to have players spawn with power weapons (shotgun, sniper rifle.)? Who's idea was it to give points for kills in an objective game type? And what the fuck is wrong when you go positive in this joke of a competitive multiplayer system and get nothing for it, but the player who's K/D that round is negative out two asses gets rewarded for it?

In my opinion, regular Crucible matches should only spawn you a standard primary weapon, and have power weapons as pick ups that drop across the map (y'know. like most FPSs). Save everything else for the Iron Banner (Destiny's "hard core" multiplayer).

I loved the Halo multiplayer, and was really hoping Desinty's would be similar. But its not. Its just not fun.

Interstellar Marines is a creepy game. Period.
And the new update in Space Engineers brought "infinite" (well, not infinite, but 6,6AU in radius which is about the distance between Sun and Jupiter, image for visualisation here, clicky so with current max speed of ~115m/s it would take you hundreds of REAL LIFE years to reach the border ) worlds, with procedurally generated things. Asteroids load differently now, increasing performance by a solid chunk (at least for me) and there are player-made ships added into the game as part of the same update. It now makes the game several times more fun, even when playing alone. Just imagine, you start for example in a crashed ship, then you scrap it to build your own and explore. Then you stumble upon a spaceship/space station, it looks like empty... Who knows what it might hide?

 

Got a new game through the steam sale! :3 ShadowRun DragonFall. I've been wanting to play it ever since I heard about it, and today I'm gonna do so :3

 

So…. playing Don't Starve… I just about survived through winter for the first time… Have a nice base laid down… Then this guy decides to show up...

 

Can't wait for don't starve multiplayer. Going to bug so many people on my friends list to play it with me.

 

It'll probably not hit the daily deal, but everyone should totally buy 100% Orange Juice, no joke. I snagged the four pack a while back as a joke, tossed it to a few friends and expected a terrible shit-show, only to instead walk away with a game that's amazingly fun with friends.

If you want Mario Party without the bull shit mini games of Mario Party, this is for you!

 

The Talos Principle... HOLY SHIT... This is the best puzzle game I've played since Antichamber or Portal. I always feel that there are really only 2 aspects to games: Story and Gameplay. Perfect 1 and it'll be one of my favorite games ever. And Talos is hitting both on the head really well so far.

Some examples:
Antichamber - Perfect gameplay, 0 story - perfect
Minecraft - Perfect gameplay, 0 story - perfect
The Stanley Parable - 0 gameplay, perfect story - perfect
TF2 - Has hats rocket jumping - perfect
Thomas was Alone - pretty basic gameplay, perfect story - I almost cried while playing it
Portal - Perfect (albeit glitchy) gameplay, perfect story - my pants are now wet

I would comment on Roundabout, Papers Please, Transistor and a few others. But I haven't gotten around to finishing them yet. There are also a few weird ones: Kairo and NaissanceE. I've finished kairo and it was fun but I don't remember much about it other than it was gorgeus. I've yet to finish NaissanceE but it seems like it's more of a exploration game through a weird disheveled futuristic city. I like them both I just can't remember how they fit in with story/gameplay.

TL;DR Ultra hyped Triple A games can suck a dick. Weird indie games fo lyfe.

 

Scott Cawthon just posted a teaser for FNAF3 on his website and I'm super excited

I also just learned that he's posted little teasers, hidden in the source code. One of them was a hint that the third game may take place 30 years in the future. Something that interests me is one of the keywords that read "only one". Going along with the teaser image, I wonder if there'll just be one animatronic this time around..? I can't imagine the same gaming mechanic from the first two games being as interesting with just one animatronic, but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see. In any case, I'm pretty stoked!

 

Played TF2 with Blue (@Bluehorizon10) the other day trolling people over the mics. Fun times.

 

played some dark souls, beat ornstein and smough on the second try then went and fucked up the stray demon and then finally beat ceaseless discharge with melee since the "run back to the gate and he falls" exploit doesn't work for shit when he just stays at the other end of the level and shoots fire at you, then went and killed the first capra demon in the demon ruins, poked my head around the corner and saw like 8 more and noped the fuck out of there. now I don't know where to go lol

 

Hmmm... Decided to learn some Ice Climbers tech in Melee... Gotta say, they are damn fun! Definitely play different than any other character, but feel really fluent, even when doing the wonky desync stuff. And of course it helps to have the most broken grab game on the roster, making them able to swing momentum in their favor at any point of a match.

 

We've talked about the special edition console for the majora's mask. But does anyone know if there is a special edition console for the up coming monster hunter game on the 3ds?

 

You survived the winter? Well, you got me beat.

 

It's damn difficult! I was a little lucky and got a ton of beefalo and was able to get quite a bit of their fur. Warm clothes and Wilson's beard make Winter very manageable.
There's just so many tricks that ya pick up as you go... The learning curve is what makes this game so damn fun!
My current file is on day 80... I survived the Deerclops attack, but he wiped out my base... Got some rebuilding to do before Summer gets here.

 

That was the problem for me, keeping warm. I never really managed that too well. Day 80 is impressive. I don't really remember how many days I lasted when I played but I know for sure it wasn't 80 heh.

 

Now I know who to buddy up with when the multiplayer comes out.

 

I forgot how hard trying to solo Crota's End was.

And my reward for suffering through each phase? Fucking Radiant Energy. I need Shards!
