This conversation is getting me a little heated. Being poly amorous means you have the ability to fully love more than one person. That's all it means. You can still be monogamous and be poly because you may be poly in one closed relationship. Many polyamourous who actually do break monogamy still are in fairly exclusive relationships and only invite other like minded people into the equation. It's not a free for all.

You are either poly or mono. Not the both. I have friends that are in a real poly relationship and fully understand not to push things on a mono person and vice versa, a mono can't stop a poly loving many and tell them that if they want to be with said mono they have to drop the others. It just doesn't work.

Well, monogamous relationship refers to single partner relations, hence mono. Polyamory is many. I understand what you're saying, but closed relationship and monogamy are not the same thing. Yes, polyamourous people can and often are in closed relationships with the any number of people they are with, and being polyamourous does not nessesarily mean that it's a huge sexual and relationship free for all, but that doesn't make them monogamous.

oh joy, more homework based on ethics. I personally don't much like ethics, or at least the newer form of ethics that has departed from basing things on codified laws and instead bases the judgement on whether something is ethical or not on whatever the majority popular opinion is. under a law based ethics system you can say something is unethical because it goes against a rule or code that dictates proper behavior within different environmental contexts. under popular social opinion based ethics there is no set scale to judge things against because it is constantly changing. one day people will care about one very specific issue and within days, weeks, or months they'll forget about it and move onto something else so that any judgments of ethic made before the change have no precedent to uphold them. I usually don't like to get tangled up in philosophical what ifs, but this is something that bugs me because it's very easy for people to take advantage of a system with no set regulations or standards, basically it's deciding whether someone did something wrong on how it affected people's emotions instead of if it caused any measurable legal harm.

TL;DR: I don't like the new school of ethics because it imposes rules based on non-rules and there is too large of a range of what's considered ethical or unethical outside of a standardized system of rules, laws, and regulations

You can be poly amorous an monogamous, you can be poly amorous and non monogamus, that's why the second word exists. The truth is that poly is a buzz word and therefore if you sit on a certain side of the fence about it it's definition changes, it can also change person to person, which i'm noticing on the forum. Many people are poly, and are married and have chosen their one partner. Like any relationship they have decided that their significant other is perfect enough for them to ignore all other possibilities, just like any normal relationship. They don't force anything on anyone.

(last debate type on general lol)

might I invoke a favorite quote here
"debating social issues is like pissing into the wind, there's always blowback and no one comes out smelling like a rose"

on another note found out the windows update also fucked up my printer connectivity and the HP help/update system. I really want a new computer with a not-shit OS but I don't want a mac and I'm gonna wait quite a while to make sure windows 10 isn't a repeat of 8/8.1

Apparently Win 10 will be free for the first year, for Win 7/8.x users.
