I hate correlational studies since they usually look at two very unrelated things, one I saw recently was "children that eat fast food more than 4 times a week found to have grades 35% lower than average" because it totally has nothing to do with their family economic status and the ability to afford tutors, live in a neighborhood with good schools or just how smart the kid is in general

 

Correlational studies are very good for beginning points. Showing that two things relate, in some fashion, gives you a place to focus in on in more direct experimentation or observation, and provides you with a rationale for continuing that study. However, lots of media outlets don't see it like that, lol, as you said.

I don't they understand that exageration and lying isn't a good thing in science because it's not science

 

It's a lot easier and "entertaining" to read a vague headline of a correlation study and jump to sensational conclusions than it is to dig closer to the truth of the matter.

 

It's not a good thing in news either, but they don't have any problem with that.
