...You do realize like 95% of the posts that get spread across Facebook are hyperbole'd clickbait BS designed to get people angry, and the folks sharing 'em don't usually go into nuances of the issue they're talking about, as opposed to just calling everybody idiots, right?

'Cause claiming that people on Facebook may not've studied up on mass-media-constructed standards of gender expectations before hitting Reblog is kinda shooting fish in a barrel, here. :B

 

they don't have to use logic, common sense, common decency, facts, google, or in general be nice when they can just block you and complain about how you're part of the problem

*brain.exe has stopped working* thinking about the use of base 10 number systems or lower and how hard it would be to do any math or engineering cooperation if we ever came across another smart living thing with a number system higher than base 10. obviously they could use base ten but that would be like being asked to do all your math in binary or octal.

also I'm curious if anything living and intelligent ever finds the voyager satellite will they think a bunch of ugly degenerate screaming squealing monsters made it from the images and the record onboard lol could make a funny short story

I often think about the problem of sound for voyager. Playing the record will rely partly on the acoustic qualities of the medium it transmits through. An atmosphere too different from our own would render the music very unlike anything humans ever listened to. The visual instructions on the record are about as clear as they can be, because they establish a simple metric for interpreting the rest, based on binary logic and hydrogen's two lowest states. Anyone in the universe with sufficient scientific knowledge can figure that part out at least. The only assumption one has to make to read the record is that it is written as simply as possible to get the point across. The only assumption one has to make is that the instructions start at the beginning. A basic time unit to describe the values of the other details. A picture of the first image you will see if you display the video correctly. A picture of how to start the record, from the outside, and how to set the needle. The most efficient and logical mathematical language conceivable, binary, is the language of the instructions. It allows the author to express the most information possible in the shortest number of "words" possible.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, it can suck when they're all folks you know who're doing that. I call those ka-DUNK moments, where someone says something that's so painful to think somebody thought that would be a good thing to say! that it ka-DUNK falls into the conversation like a turd on a dinner table, and all anyone can do is stare awkwardly for a moment.
