Watching a Youtube video of Markiplier playing Five Nights at Freddy's 3 in 720p. I've never watched videos on my computer in HD. It's kinda freaky.

Growing up I had a little aerial on my TV and only got about four stations with reasonable levels of static. I'm the type of person to listen to radio stations with static, watch videos in low quality, and listen to live recordings of music just because nothing bothers me. I've never really felt the need to push the limits of what my technology can do. I've always been satisfied with console gaming and my TV's built-in speakers. I never buy Blu-Rays because DVD is just fine.

It's weird watching something in HD. I feel wasteful and greedy, like I'm using our (practically unlimited) bandwidth selfishly. I can't get over how strange video looks at that resolution. He's just this little tiny box in the corner of the screen and he's moving at an unusual speed, with unusual clarity, and it's kind of unsettling. Like watching stop motion.

Interesting story, it was (I believe) the original Lord of the Rings movie which was plagued by a similar problem. While most television is broadcast at 48 fps, movies are generally at 24 fps to cut down on editing costs. When LotR was made, they made it in 48, and everyone complained that it looked cheap, because their brains felt like they were watching a blown-up tv screen.

In reality for stuff like TV and movies 24-30 fps is perfectly fine.
When it comes to the video games 60 fps is the bare minimum.
Unless you are using G-sync or Free sync (dynamic refresh rate), then the ideal frame rate from what I've heard is actually around 45 fps.

For resolution imo with today's technology there is no reason for anything less than 1080p for new media.

And as a side note, all the HD names that aren't just %number%p are just fucking stupid:
    HD: 1280 x 720
    Full HD: 1920 x 1080
    Quad HD: 2560 x 1440 (4 * 720p, kinda makes sense)
    Ultra HD "4K": 3840 x 2160 (4 * 1080p)
    actual 4K: 4096 x 2160 (9 * 720p)
    5K: 5120 x 2880 (4 * Quad HD)

It is a petty complaint though because none of them follow the true aspect ratio master race: 16:10

to put it simply, I'm a cynical bastard with more than enough bad experiences to know how shitty and stupid people are in general and how easily a bunch of well meaning people can be drug into an all out shit fight by a single social media post about a dress, or a bird, or a cronut

EDIT: an important addendum to this is that in text communications you lack a person's tone and their diction to gather a better context of how they tend to talk, I may be a cynical bastard but I try to keep things as upbeat as possible when talking to people face to face

I mean live, cell phone recordings. If I want to hear something I don't care what it was recorded on. I have no real standards for tech stuff. Barely functional is good enough for me. Laptop speakers sound just as good to me as a fancy headset and low quality video is maybe even preferable to HD, for me at least. We didn't even get cable til I was almost 20, I grew up making the most of whatever I could get.

I feel a bit same... Maybe because my Internet won't handle HD without interruptions xD Most of what it can squeeze is 480p, sometimes even that has buffering problems.
But I know what you mean, even for me there's a limit of when something's actually useful. Anything beyond HD is just not really a step forward in terms of quality, and without big screen you won't really see the difference. At 480p->720p there's a jump forward in graphics, but the same jump in 720p->1080p just isn't the same.

3 years ago today I started dating my ex-fiancee. I still love him and want it to work out but he is a different person. I guess I am too.

Maybe in time, we can be together again.

Oh, biphobia is definitely a thing. Man, I wish reality had some sense to it. "In keeping with your statements regarding homosexuality, all depictions of it will now be removed from your reality stream. Yes, that includes 'girl on girl.'" "In keeping with your statements regarding evolution, all medical advances based on it will now be removed from your reality stream. Enjoy the rest of your short, nasty, brutish existence." "In keeping with your statements regarding women's intellectual abilities, all inventions by women have been removed from your reality stream. That includes: clothes, beer and computers."

I'm all for giving women due credit, but exactly where are you getting "clothes, beer, and computers"? I feel like you just picked three random important things, considering two of those are way too old to have known inventors, and the other is so nonspecific you can't claim a single creator...

No, that's pretty moch correct, although when computers were invented, they were the size of your living room, the modern computer was brought to fruition with the help of a female engineer at IBM. They needed a component through which the systems micro processors could connect and communicate. This female engineer created the "motherboard". Alcohol in early Egypt and possibly Mesopotamia, was indeed handled by women, whose duty was also to manufacture bread, and sometimes their alcohol was kickstarted by the use of the yeast from the bread (of course they didn't understand it at the time, but that's what they were doing). As for clothing, I can't remember that one.

Oh shit.... Was looking at guys on POF, and came across a guy from my local smash scene..... He'll be able to see that I viewed his profile...

This would normally be an ok thing, maybe even an ice breaker, but the guy comes off as an ass, and completely lacks social skills of any sort.

I just don't want him to say anything... I have plenty of lifelong friends that I've never told I'm gay that also are in the smash scene, and I wouldn't want them to figure out because this guy mentions something.

I'm most certainly over thinking this though...

Without Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, and Jean Bartik, we'd still be writing in assembly language. Okay, women didn't invent computers; they invented software. (Hopper notably wrote the first compiler. This upset a lot of men, apparently, because converting thought into computer code was something programmers did with their minds. She was making it too easy!)

I can't give a citation for clothes, but every anthropologist worth his salt is convinced women invented beer. One of the best stories I remember from anthropology class was one field researcher who got interested when he heard about a tribe in South America that was still doing grass-based beers, but what really made him have to find this tribe, no matter how isolated, was that they called it "grandfather beer." As far as everyone knew, women were universally in charge of making the beer. It turned out that the beer was brewed with grandfather's ashes in it. He learned this only after trying some.
