You got it just right I think. We voluntarily get knocked out to get teeth removed by a dentist. We don't consider that the same kind of interaction as getting knocked out so something can be taken from you without your consent.

I am against cicumcision and voted for both no options.
I think I should explain why, because I might be interpreting the poll a bit differently than most.

At birth/young age
No, for aesthetic reasons. I think it should not be done. Aesthetically, it's not good looking to me.
No, for health reasons. I think cutting in a healthy child's body is a shitty thing to do. It is only bad for the child's health.

At older age
Aesthetic reasons: I have piercings fpr aesthetic reasons, so adults should be allowed to do it for this reason. I stil don't think it looks good..
Health reasons: it has no benefits if your body is healthy.


Circumcision for medical reasons: yes. If you're having problems, by all means let a doctor cut it off! If your child is having problems, do it immediately!

 

If I could get a foreskin on Black Friday I totally would!

(On an unrelated note, know what it's called Black Friday? I thought it was some antiquated catholic holiday or something, it's actually just the time of year when retailers traditionally start making a profit. That is to say, they go out of the red, and into the BLACK. We have a consumerism holiday that celebrates consumerism and the day when consumerism starts paying off )

This is pretty much something I can agree with. Well thought out response.

 

Circumcision is not exectly common here in the Netherlands. Seems to me that the only reason one should choose for their child to undergo circumcision is when not doing so imposes an immediate risk to the child's health. I don't think that one should dabble too much in "what if's" when deciding whether or not to chop a bit off a perfecty healthy young boy.

Adults can decide for themselves based on whatever reason they see fit.

This just my own personal opinion though. Please don't take it too seriously ^^

Many interesting points in this debate. To be honest, I've never given any thought to it. I, myself, am cut, but I never gave any thought to being different. Didn't even know there was a different until much later in life. It would be interesting to me to go into the consent debate because, as a philosopher, free will, bodily choice, and those without "reason" (a sticky question in an of itself) are all very heavy and difficult issues. There are a lot of nasty places this can go (philosophically and socially), so I am quite interested in seeing where it goes.

 

I'll put it fast. I'm circumcised, and I'm not doing it to my kids. There's no reason for it that can't be compensated for with hygiene.

 

I completely agree with this other then medical reasons obviously.
But the reason why the hygiene "problems" are used in the argument so much is because in America so many guys have been circumcised they do not know how to take care of one, so they don't know what to tell their son/s and that can lead to bad hygiene.
All it really take is a small bit of reading or asking someone that knows.

My advice is.
When they are still young (baby/0-6) just leave it a lone, don't try cleaning it there is no need at that age.
To avoid tightness of the foreskin at the age of about 6-7 get them to start pulling the foreskin over the head of the penis when they pee, the first number of times they will want to do this slow as it will be tight and will hurt if they do it too fast, at this time they will want to get in to the habit of cleaning the head/under the foreskin when they take a bath or shower.
That is pretty much all there is to it.
