Going bowling tonight for the first time in.... many years. Many many years. I'm gonna suck like hell but it's gonna be fun either way.

it's also not for the dumb either, some idiots in my lab were trying to get their friend to take a mouthful of weak hydrochloric acid because they didn't think it could actually burn them, luckily the TA told them to GTFO and they were banned from the class

 

Ha, serves them right (though I doubt they were of the mind this was some sort of "punishment").

I don't think I ever witnessed any outright dumbassery in either highschool or university chemlabs; but I will say our Chemistry teacher in Grade 10 mixed us up a weak HCl solution and encouraged us all to dip a finger and taste, and compare to the taste of the sour key ring candies he'd passed out; I believe he was discussing how all acids behave and can have near-identical properties to the senses when pure (he of course warned we ought not to be tasting, say, any HF or HS acid to prove the point). He was an awesome teacher, who also lit the inside of a sink on fire demonstrating the combustibility of a chemical simply by exposure to air (e.g. pour it in the basin and stand back!). I suppose controlled, educated and enthusiastic tomfoolery has its place. Sure made his class something to look forward to!

 

My only day off this week...KICKIN' IT OFF FINALLY. Had to run around doing other things, like buy a new wet jet.

The past few days have been kinda weird, and all of the weirdness has been happening while driving. This past week there have been 3 major accidents on one of the highways that runs through my town each within 1 mile of each other.

Also I've seen 2 people that clearly don't know how turn signals work.
1 was in the left turn lane with the right turn blinker on. And she was old, asian, and on her phone, which if stereotypes are anything to go by...
The other was on the highway in the leftmost lane, with their left turn blinker on... The Jersey rails aren't going to let you into the other lane guy, that's exactly what they're designed for.

 

that moment when someone argues that they can take an entire bottle of ibuprofen to treat a headache because they have 10 people living in their head and so apparently their liver can handle an exponentially higher dosage of drugs then someone who doesn't have 10 people living in their head and then they say you don't understand how biology works when you tell them that will kill them or cause liver damage...

you know what, let em take a whole bottle of ibuprofen, fuck it

 

jesus, that could legitimately cause liver failure couldn't it? Or at least permanent damage :s

 

yep, most of the research they have on it is from attempted suicides with ibuprofen or aspirin, they fail in almost all cases and the patient ends up in the hospital for up to two months constantly shitting yellow paste and feeling sick. some recover, some end up with permanent damage and have to take meds the rest of their lives. what's most disturbing to me is that people think a mental condition somehow makes their body act differently than every other thing of the same biological species

 

that's how mental illness works.

 

this happens to be one of those people that thinks they are completely normal and that society is trying to silence them, diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and possibly MPD, though those are very interchangeable. they're my neighbor's cousin and they're visiting for the weekend. my neighbor came over to ask my dad about the ibuprofen thing because my dad used to be an EMT and they're family has been debating institutionalizing him for a while

 

Did you try talking sense into any of the other nine people in there?
