Don't know why I drifted away from this game. Somewhat recently got back into it, started a new character and am already in Transylvania (after Kingsmouth in New England, complete with Innsmouth Academy, Egypt, complete with representations of ancient gods, mummies, and civil unrest). Having just arrived, it'll be a little while before I get to Venice (they are basically the UN for the three playable factions) and then Tokyo (technically again).

Most of the things/conspiracies mentioned in that trailer are in the game.

No grinding, no (official) levels, no set classes. Three factions of secret societies, the Templar (London headquarters, pretty much what you'd expect from such a group, on in modern era), the Illuminati (described as Sex, Drugs, and Rockefeller though none of those really apply to your character, New York based), and the Dragon (Chaos reigns, being chaotic they have no real set base of operations, but are currently based in Seoul).

No official levels means that while your character doesn't have a level, your "level" is determined by your gear, Q1 through Q10.5(and I've heard Q10.5.5). Up to Q10 you can put points into, beyond that, I think you need to upgrade equipment.

No set classes, but you can change when not in combat so long as you can equip the weapons and have the skills (SP and AP gained through XP, 3 AP per full XP bar, and 1 SP when filling it completely, outside of events like 2x AP). 3 weapons types, Melee, Ranged, and Magic. 9 Weapons. 3 Melee, Sword, Hammer (includes Axes for basic shape), and Fist (claw weapons). 3 Ranged, Pistols, Rifle, and Shotgun. 3 Magic, Elemental, Chaos, and Blood. Plus Auxiliary weapons which there is at least one for each class, including a rocket launcher.

It's buy to play, with optional subscription (you get access to stuff/get stuff with it, I got a lifetime sub), and cash shop which is mostly cosmetic, but there are some boosts that are temp.

I remember seeing the trailer for that years ago. Once it finally released, I read the reviews and watched some gameplays and stuff, and it got a really bad rep for just generally being shit. Lost interest after that.

Same here, though I rarely expect an MMO to be truly successful these days. FFXIV actually surprised me (though it took two tries!)

I have rose colored glasses for one particular MMO, and so nothing else in the genre tends to interest me. Especially when most MMO leveling is a chain of incredibly mundane "quests."

WoW did it, and it worked, so now it's everywhere.

It's since expanded with Issue #11 either coming out soon or came out recently. It's very story heavy. The combat is pretty generic, but at least it's not stand in one spot and face mash buttons until you or it dies. And all the quests add to the flavor of the environment, with no kill x and bring back y things. Heck one of my favorite places so far has been "The Black House", reading the lore (which is actual lore, not an encyclopedic check list). Investigation missions are the most rewarding, and as a general rule requires little to no fighting. Like one requires knowledge of morse code, or knowing where/how to translate it. Or finding notes from a piece of classical music. The environment is immersive, especially if you are into the whole Lovecraftian and end of days type setting, or even alternate reality settings.

It's a definite departure from the run of the mill MMO which is either fantasy or outer space sci-fi like WoW or Star Wars.

So the guy in the new Final Fantasy game who had the really skimpy outfit that outraged completely straight, 100% NOT GAY, "I DON'T LIKE LOOKING AT SKIN UNLESS IT'S A FEMALE'S" gaming men had his skimpiness toned down. [IMG]

This is really fucking disappointing to me, on multiple levels. Although I've never really been a Final Fantasy fan, it was refreshing and somewhat exciting to see a skimpily dressed male protagonist for once. I was really looking forward for that to become a thing. But because the self entitled whiny asschildren that make up the majority of the gaming crowd got annoyed and concerned about the fact that looking at "less clothed" males in video games makes them gay, SQUENIX caved in to their protests. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I see this less as business damage control and more of a gaming developer being bullied into changing their design decisions. Except, you know, when females do it over exactly the same circumstances, they're met with replies ranging from snidely written sarcastic put-downs to downright brutal abuse.

Shame on you SQUENIX for letting your design directions be dictated by the immature whining crowd.

That is a completely valid point and I will miss the skimpy protagonist. Though it bears mentioning that they seem to have made him a little more.... twink-like in the second photo. Dat boyish face :3

I think it's just because the collar is covering most of his jawline now. But yeah, I was excited for male protagonists like this becoming more popular:

It *should* be available on PS4, XBOne, and PC (though we PC gamers probably know the truth :p)

With my hand injured, I'll likely be unable to comfortably play my 3DS for several days :p Can't work, either.
SO... might as well binge watch a Let's Play of Majora's Mask to appeal to my urges. Weeee.

Seems like a good collector's piece, and definitely takes me back to my childhood. A childhood where I was actually too scared of the game itself to get very far in it xD I think with all the dark theories about the game and the whole BEN nonesense, a bit of that fear has remained, so its great to see all these new glorious textures fleshing out the game even more,

I can definitely relate. I felt like I was a kid all over again when I saw how pretty everything was from how I remembered. And to be fair, the game is really eerie. I still get chills when I play it.

Another thing for that new Deus Ex game. I'd normally edit my earlier post, but it's on previous page :p
