Ahaha yeah. I told my mum that my thyroid is something my other DOCTOR told me I should bring up with my physician and uh... Well, needless to say it was just: "Well, if you have a thyroid problem then everyone else in this family who is even slightly overweight must have that issue."

I just... I don't even know. :I Like.. I know it's frustrating for people to say you know: "Oh well I can't lose weight" even though they don't really try? My diet has never been super awful (I hardly drink soda and fast food gives me upset tummy like no other). I've been doing the 21 Day Fix workouts with my sister because she'd rather not workout alone and I've barely shed 5 pounds. x_x It's... I don't even know. I just get so discouraged.

As for otherkin.. I've really no feelings towards that discussion. Like.. It's kind of frustrating for me. I'm open for people to express themselves however they want to; though I start to feel a bit uncomfortable when people want me to address them as "star", "fae", "cie".. I mean there's even pronouns for clouds and whatnot. :V It's just... Too much, I'm afraid.

 

Safely over at a friend's house. Very long day. I'm extremely tired. Not sure how sleep is gonna happen, but bought a couple new body pillows so at the very least I can make myself a nest.

fuck yeah, had a professor give the class a choice on whether to revise our papers or accept the curved grade since the class average with a curve was 55%. my group, with the curve, has a 95%. definitely not doing any revisions

 

Wow. After watching the video I looked up a couple other videos on it, specifically with people who label themselves otherkin, and all I can say is wow. That's a lot more crazy than I would be prepared to deal with in person. The mental gymnastics a person would have to go through to convince themselves that cutting off their dog's head wasn't killing said dog is astounding. On the one hand I'm surprised that psychologists aren't jumping on this to do a study and get their name out there, and on the other hand I'm thinking they might be afraid of getting mauled by their subjects.

Otherkin identify as something other than human. Of all the branches and twists of the furry community they're the ones taken the least seriously. I'm not sure why really, it doesn't bother me, if somebody tells me they're a fox, literally, not just in the way that you've got hooves and I'm a cuddly dragon, but they tell me they are literally a fox, it really doesn't do me any harm to say "Okay?" and leave it at that.

 

That's exactly what I was thinking. I am a lycan to me friends but a true wolf never reveals themselves to the sheep around it.
Revealing ones identity to the masses could bring trouble to your cause.

 

I'm new to the concept, but here's my take on it based off what information I've gleaned so far.

To me, for the most part, it seems to almost certainly be a ploy to gain attention and/or tumblr cred 99% of the time. I'm sure most people are aware of that certain tumblr community, in which the goal almost seems to be to make yourself as indescribable as possible in any succinct fashion. The unstated goal seems to be to make yourself seem as complicated and not-normal as possible to gain attention for your uniqueness. I don't think it's a coincidence that this otherkin thing seems to be booming among that particular community, and is almost entirely without representation elsewhere.

While I doubt that many of these individuals act out as they seem to state that their "kin" should act, there is the smaller minority that does act that way. If all people were doing was saying that they were literally a fox, or space, or time, or a number, then whatever, that's a tumblr thing and I'll steer clear. The problem presents itself when the select minority chooses to act out on their kin status among the general populace. I'm sure I don't need to go into detail about how things like urinary territory marking would be problematic in general society, and that's without going into the more "aggressive" mannerisms that their select kin should apparently be involved in.

I recall a video I saw in which a guy claimed he was a wolfkin, and would growl and bare his teeth at random people that came close to his house/territory, or if they acted in a manner in which he did not agree with. He would also bark, which is funny, because wolves don't bark, further leading to the conclusion that this is an act. An actual wolf would know that wolves don't bark. Anyway, more on the topic of these actions. If this were behaviour being observed in a person who did not claim to be otherkin, that person would very likely find themselves in a mental institution sooner or later. I don't think that labeling yourself as a wolf should be enough to give alternate treatment, especially considering that such beliefs, if proven true and not an act, could lead to a diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociative_identity_disorder) or another similar serious mental disorder.

There's another example that I mentioned briefly earlier, in which another self-identified wolfkin cut off their dog's head for questioning their dominance as alpha of the pack. Later claimed that while they did indeed cut off the dog's head, they didn't kill the dog, and said the dog was still their friend. This is very clearly the mind of a seriously mentally unstable person. Obviously I wouldn't pin it on the label of otherkin, but I would say that it's the person's belief (legitimate or otherwise) that they need to do things as a pack alpha does that lead to the violence.

Words alone are fine, that's what tumblr is for. If they truly desire attention, tumblr has more than enough to give. For the few, however, that legitimately believe they are some kind of animal, and engage in non-human behaviours that are potentially harmful, they need to be mentally evaluated by a professional to ensure that they're not a danger to themselves or others.

Woo.....so ever since I moved, I've made a 3-foot-deep*7-foot-wide*8-foot-high walk-in closet into my bedroom, complete with a military surplus linen and wire style cot, my laptop, a small flatscreen TV that I use as a second monitor, and my handful of dufflebags that hold my clothes and knicknacks that I took with. Just because I could, and I was actually am enjoying it.

But now my cot is tearing, because being a surplus it's a little on the old side, and I'm occasionally stepping on it when I get up off of it.....FML. Time to go online for a new one and wait however long for it to ship. :T

PS: I've always bought my surplus stuff at a really cool place down in Galveston called Colonel Bubby's, though this cot was given to me by my mom's mom, and I can't exactly make a trip to Galveston right now....so I have no clue what surplus sites online have good reputation or not. Any advice here would be golden.

 

Morning all, hooray for no school today

 

So I finally leveled up to 99 in Type-0, went to the extra dungeon and surprise happens: enemies are lvl 128, one-hit kill you and in order to beat it you have to kill 501 enemies. The strategy everyone follows? Spamming area spells 'till you get to the end of it.
What is the fun in that?
