hmmm group project due tomorrow night and so far I'm the only one who has written anything for it. it isn't even that hard, five pages minimum and I've already written two and a half pages. they better step their game up because if I'm the only one who does anything and my grade gets screwed over I'm making sure they get absolutely nothing

If a person got angry that I exposed a liar that supported their position, there's practically no chance I was going to convince them regardless. I couldn't care less if drama erupts at this point, because the only people who are going to get angry are set in their ways. It would just show curious or undecided onlookers that they don't know how to debate properly, or cannot support their side rationally, and so I win regardless.
Haha, I remember that quote. A point that my main opponent tried (and failed) to make was that evolution was "only supposed to be positive" and "couldn't form a negative mutation", and that somehow neanderthals were superior to us because they had larger brains, and therefore must have been smarter than us, therefore evolution doesn't exist. This just highlighted how little they know about how brains work.

Also neanderthals had almost the same amount of space inside the skull as we do.

Oh god, I had a love/hate relationship with group projects in college. On the one hand, a lot of my classmates were diligent workers, so it was always good to work with them. On the other hand, I got stuck with the not-so-diligent workers for more than half the group projects through the whole year. One project had us write skits for a class presentation, I didn't get anything from either of my group members until the day of the presentation less than an hour before we presented.

or it ends up chasing away all the moderate and undecided onlookers so you're left with the worst of the worst from both sides *cough cough* social justice... *cough cough*

Extremists on both sides of Recent Internet Drama have sent "kill yourself" messages to me. The whole thing is fucked.

Debating creationism is wasted time. Had enough of that shoved down my throat growing up... Actually, was brainwashed with enough of it that if it didn't screw me up emotionally to think about, I could have a rather fun time picking apart the logic behind it due to being so damn familiar with it. I delight in the idea of Kent Hovind being locked up in jail. Throw the scum back in there already.

Maybe it is fortunate that arguing is too taxing to me. Rather just avoid when possible, conserve the energy for things that are actually worth arguing over. (What is 'worth' arguing over is subjective also, I just have a low tolerance for it. Like to keep some people who are really good at it around though, usually bounce ideas/energy off of them. I offer stabilization when they need, they help me in other ways, it's all good.)

Possible, though I rarely get into situations where my opponents are such poor sports. It's unlikely that they would be chased away from a more civil debate (which I would say is roughly 75% of the debates I usually go into). That said, moderates and undecided watchers are far more likely to be chased away from the position that can't seem to handle itself, rather than just be chased away from the argument in general.

I wouldn't say it's entirely wasted time. I have had cases where a person has jumped in and said I've given them some serious independant thinking to do, and that's typically why I argue and debate things like that in the first place. That, and debating doesn't take much energy out of me, I rather enjoy it most of the time. Heck, I actually own a card game where the entire point is to debate an opponent while the other players watch, deliberate, and decide the winner of that round.

Right, different people have different tolerances and energy amounts to be able to devote to debating. I certainly enjoy observing debates, but personally find it too taxing to take part.
My experience with Creationists is that it tends to come out to wasted time, but to say it is entirely was incorrect. I am evidence of arguments changing thoughts, after all.

Just scheduled a 6/mo payment with my car insurance. Only have to worry about having the money in my account in a month. It's over $1000...ugh. Big (fast, newish) car, full coverage, under 25, got a speeding ticket last year, what fun it is to still be spending what is approximately a car payment for the damn thing. :I

Insurance is one of the reasons I decided I'm probably never going to own a car. Public transportation all the way.

I loved being able to use public transit! As much as I like my car, it costs a ton of money... However it is impossible to be in my line of work without a license (it was actually a condition of my emoloyment). It is nice to be able to get places much more promptly though.

I love the freedom of being able to drive whenever/wherever also, although if I lived any closer to Chicago I would just not have a car.

The city grows...every day...soon it will consume the surrounding area...
And its nightmarish tornado siren will become standard throughout Chicagoland. *shudder*

making salsa and it smells so good! I hate the smell and taste or raw tomatoes, but roasted tomatoes... mmmmm... and roasted tomatoes with roasted onion, jalapeno, and garlic, even better

Im the same way! Raw tomatoes, unless of a reallllly high quality, are pretty gross to me, but roasting them makes them just absolutely delicious, and perfect for salsa.

I think it's probably the solanine in them. if I smell the vine itself I start to gag.

anyway, this salsa is fucking awesome! I wish I could share some with everyone. just the right amount of sweet and spicy and that good roasted vegetable flavor. might divide out a small batch and add a little ghost pepper to kick it up a few notches, call it Scalie's reserve lol

dry british wit and cynicism coupled with seeing other people's stupidity. love it

seriously though, asking 3 to 5 year olds to sign a contract not to use "noninclusive language" because that'll really stick with them

Just a quick update on something funny. A friend went to a disco to hook up some girls and he ended up talking with two french chicks. One of said chicks made up with him and after that, quote: I just want to be friends with you.
    One night noteven-stand-friendzone XDDDD
