I stayed up too late last night and now I feel absolutely wreaked...

 

Last day in Nova Scotia, we'll be visiting my mom's first boyfriend today and then moving on west to head back home. Then I have to decide if I'm going to Michael's house to get stuff and then back to my mom's house, or going to my cottage to see my grandmother. Option A lets me use dildos and option B means I'll see my grandmother who could very realistically die before I'm back on Ontario... Guess I'm going to my cottage.

Been dealing with the breakup...so far it's been tough...lots of discussion with the ex on how's and why's. Found out she cheated on me a month ago but I can't stay mad at people and I've forgiven her though I said it's best we don't talk any more, which really upset her but it's best.

FYI this all happened after I told her I'm bi and liked traps. It hit a certain insecurity of hers really hard so I can understand but she should've broke it off if she felt the need to get screwed BEFOREHAND.

First time in a while I'm doing something other than getting drunk and stoned trying to forget. Working on my next tube amp as I write this. I'm pretty stoked!

 

Tomorrow I'm going swimming with the...well I might as well just say bf even though we're not together in the way we want to be yet but fuck it. It's easier for me.

 

Kind of in the same position, at least for what fried chicken is available. We have a chain called Brown's here too, and that's hit or miss depending on where you get it from. The one within walking distance makes me sick (dunno why), so I don't get food there.

My mouth is unbearably dry. Working toward moisturizing it. Throat is hurting very much but it generally seems to hurt worse after sleep. Will give it a bit, and some ice water, and see where we're at.
ETA: Fever down to 99.8. Most of the white pustule nonsense seems to have dissipated, although the right tonsil is still pretty swollen/painful. Stepped on the scale out of curiosity, lost 6lbs. I'm fucking hungry.

Just got back from work, apparently there was a power outage at my place cause everything was shut off when I walked in.

So, I just learned that scientists are reverse evolving chickens into having a dinosaur-like mouth. The DNA is still present in their system, just inactive. So far they've managed to get embryos to grow skin-like flaps over top the beak, but haven't actually got rid of the beak yet. Apparently they're absolutely not allowed to let the chickens hatch.

A very solid piece of evidence for evolution to add to the ever-growing pile. A chicken would not have the DNA required for that if it just poofed into existence as is.

 

There a lot of inactive genes in your average bird for dinosaur traits, including tails and teeth! There are a bunch of groups doing research on them. Jack Horner will tell you based on this research, we'll reverse-engineer dinosaur-like birds in the near future!

 

As long as nobody decides that a real Jurassic Park would be a good idea they can have at it.

 

not new news but it is interesting, I remember hearing about that in like 6th grade. there is a pretty big debate in biology and genetics over whether the like 95% of non-coding DNA is junk or if it just turns on at different points due to epigenetic triggers. there are of course those that think it's all important and those that think it's all junk DNA and very few people willing to go halfway and say some may be important and some may be junk from millions of years of viruses and errors during cellular meiosis. I did think of potentially going into genetic engineering to study the potential for using specially tailored retro-viruses to change certain things during fetal development, say to remove a coding segment of genes that cause certain diseases. kinda decided not to since, eh lots of math, and also the unavoidable ethical inquiries from idiots "do you think people with genetic diseases are inferior? why are you trying to get rid of them by making them 'healthy'? what is healthy? this child that can barely function due to X-disease is just as healthy as the gold medal athlete"

if I did go into any kind of research field I'd probably keep it a under wraps as possible until I had a rock solid study and plenty of unbiased non-manipulated results to back it up. I know someone recently has come up with a process to replace the mitochondria in an embryo to prevent a pretty life ruining condition, and also technically giving a kid 3 genetic parents, and of course people have taken massive offense at the mere notion

Some things are a lot harder to retro-engineer I'll be happy with chickens that have tails, teeth, and no beaks. Feathers are built from scale DNA so maybe we can get some kind of artificial archosaur by screwing with chickens enough
