Let's drop the gun subject and revel in the fact that equality has finally reached ALL of the US.

I'd rather have a knife in my back than a guy pissed off at me 500 feet away with a gun.

I find it unfortunate that it was only just-barely passed. A 5-4 ruling when something like this should be almost, if not completely unanimous. I also find it unfortunate that the justices against the motion were using arguments like "ancient civilizations didn't have it, why are we any better?". Such arguments are beyond poor and petty, they ring completely hollow and show that you're just trying really hard not to mention your personal feelings on the matter, given that it's a court of law. These kinds of people should not be in such an important position within the government.

Grumping aside, I am really happy for your country. It's about time really. I'm of the opinion that this will be something of a turning point in how social issues are perceived and dealt with in your country. Once all the fire and brimstone dies down, maybe everyone will be just a little more tolerant.

Oh, also, that one priest that said he'd set himself on fire if this happened...I'm waiting for a news report about a flaming priest running through the streets.

Well, that was disappointing. My brother welcomed me with open arms when I told him I was bi. I was surprised he was so warm about it, and overjoyed. I thought he had a chance of breaking free of my parents.

And today, he's upvoting all the "why homosexuality is evil" posts on FB.

Well. At least I know where he stands.

For the past 4 years I've worked at an amusement park from the end of September to the end of October, scaring guests and getting paid for it.

Except, not. What if someone wants to marry multiple people? Or a family member? Neither of those are legal. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with either of those, just using them as examples. This is a very small step and only a small portion of the US more can marry who they want.

Dude ... This is a HUGE step. And one I agree should not tread further. Its a statement like yours above that gives fuel AGAINST marriage equality laws as some argued that the 'line would be blurred'.
Equality is good, but when you tread into incestual marriage like it should be a thing, then IM going to have a huge problem with that.
And if you do not agree/ disagree with the above, what exactly is your point in mentioning them??

Unpopular opinion, but I personally don't see anything wrong with polygamy as a concept, and I have very little qualms with incest.

That said, I also acknowledge that society isn't ready for a legalized polygamy right now, given that it's a paperwork nightmare and it'll just get people riled up (SEE!? WE TOLD YOU GAY MARRIAGE WAS A SLIPPERY SLOPE!!), and the issues surrounding an incestuous relationship (potential for abuse of power/coercion, high potential for birth defects in couples that want children, squick factor for many) will pretty much ensure that it won't be legal for at least a hundred years, if ever, without major scientific breakthroughs in genealogy and large-scale societal evolution (society as a whole experiences far less crime and far more tolerability of each other). Might even require governmental reform, though I suspect that will happen as Gen X ages and takes over the government.

Eh, I seriously doubt it will be legal in our lifetime. And I honestly don't think it should be, even though I enjoy the concept. No, I don't have a rrason why.
