Idk why now all of a sudden straight pride is a thing. It's kinda pointless. Like my guy shared a pic yesterday about it and I'm like "Hun, this is unnecessary. LGBT groups have wanted this for years." So yeah I don't see much point in it. I'm straight but I'm not going to be like "We need to have pride too!"

I don't see why things like "#KillAllCisHets","#KillAllMen","#KillAllWhiteMen", let alone any kind of "KillAll-X" exist. recently I've seen far more hate speech coming from 'progressive' groups than I've ever seen from conservative groups within the past 10 years

I'm pretty sure you can only be proud of accomplishments. I don't think being born is one.

so then making broad generalized statements about an entire demographic based on a single characteristic like skin color, sexuality, and gender identity is okay now? huh, I thought racism, sexism, and phobia's about where people put their parts wasn't okay anymore

I'm pretty sure the large majority of that comes from tumblr, the land of trying to be the most unique and hating hetero white men. A lot of it is just angry teenagers. I wouldn't pay it much attention.

I wouldn't say that. People can feel pride in just about anything. Whether or not a person feels that pride is justifiable is up to the individual.

The best way is to act like you're into it, and say "Hey, brother. If you've got your bible handy, I've got a favorite passage. Would you mind reading that to our friends here today?" And then name one of those verses you linked to. It works best when they get halfway through it before realizing what they're saying.

Because gay marriage thing. People who are a majority are suddenly feeling left out because they don't see it as raising the bar to equal levels, they see it as LGBT people getting special treatment/all the attention. They simply don't understand that there is absolutely no fight for any kind of equality for white cisgender heterosexuals, being that they're right at the top of the sociosexual pyramid. They have absolutely no struggle of any mentionable kind in terms of sexuality and identity. But, y'know, they don't often think that far.

Because in first world countries, LGBT people have been the target of abuse, violence and degradation since the inception of widespread religion sometime around 1100. Literally centuries, and we still have a while to go. It doesn't surprise me in the slightest that certain people are retaliating with (mostly harmless) slogans against the general demographics mostly responsible for upholding laws, views and actions that effect us daily. What do you expect? To be quite frank, I'm more surprised that hashtags are the furthest in retaliation these people have gone.

They know it pisses those people off, that's why they do it. The point is to highlight to ignorant people a fraction of the kind of suffering that LGBT people go though, albeit extremely bluntly, and it's still too much for those on top of the social pile. There's only so far you can pressure groups of people before they start pushing back. To be quite honest, I don't blame them in the slightest. Sure it and similar might be classed as "hate speech", but I would view it more as "retaliatory hate speech". Either way, there's really only so long some of us can go before saying "fuck the way I'm being treated and fuck you", since niceties and respect to those standing over us don't often seem to buy us respect back.

Or, of course, most of it is from Tumblr teenage girls who are obsessed with the "in" sexualities and pronouns and still haven't grown out of their "ewww, boys" phase. This is why I say that the internet should be 18+ unless supervised by a responsible adult.

I've never understood why people are proud to be a certain nationality. Like, what pride is there to be had in scoring a point on the roulette wheel that is geographical birth location? It's entirely down to luck. You happened to come out on one piece of land instead of all the other similar pieces of land on this godforsaken space rock. Why is that viewed as a worthy accomplishment that ought to be broadcast?

Off-topic service announcement: When you're chronically dehydrated, you may not feel thirsty much. Don't ignore signs of dehydration just because you're not thirsty.

Also: Severely chapped lips can be a sign of long-term dehydration.

Excuse me while I go fill my water glass again. *sigh* Drinking water is boring. As is sleeping.

The way I see it is that it's sort of like being a sports fan. Provided that you're actually into sports, +90% of the time you're going to be a fan of the sports team that represents the area that you live. It gives people a sort of fuzzy feeling by association and accomplishment by proxy. Studies have been done and people literally feel a sense of personal accomplishment if their sports team wins the championship of whatever series it is. Same could probably be said when their country does something they support, such as legalizing gay marriage. On the other side of the same coin, repeated losses of a sports team can cause a person to feel angry and embarrassed due to the association, and when your country does something that you don't support, you could very well feel angry or embarrassed simply due to the association.

Interesting idea; I hadn't put together that last part before. That might explain part (a small part) of the irrational levels of panic and anger that result from rulings like the one on Friday: few things make a person more angry and prone to lash out in weird ways than when they're embarrassed.

I knew that, I've always thought about sports fans in the same way. It's just ridiculous in my mind.

Spent the morning organizing all my stuff. Just need boxes to pack it all. Then my whole life will be in 2-3 neat piles. Michael is downstairs chatting with his boyfriend about cooking or fishing or something. I'm listening to this.
