Well I semi survived the day. Hungry as fuck though and my dad decided he wasn't all that hungry so we haven't eaten out despite the trip to the coast. What the actual fuck old man.

So, in celebration of Canada day, the community house in our neighbourhood is handing out free hotdogs and burgers to anyone who walks by and wants one. Well, almost anyone.

My mom and I decided to go down and grab a hotdog. We get there, the BBQ is clearly still going and they're still cooking, but they tell us "we're out of food." Obviously that's a complete load of bullshit, but I don't really feel like fighting so we walk out. Sure enough, the next people that walked up got food. And the next people. Our neighbours were curious, decided to check and see if they'd get some, and were denied.

Now comes the unfortunate implications. We're white, my neighbours are white, we were denied service. The other neighbours that told us about it are black, the people running the BBQ are black, and our black neighbours were even allowed to go back for seconds after we got denied. Pretty sure the people running the BBQ are racist.

It's unfortunate really, and extremely stupid. It's a national holiday that's supposed to be a day where everyone relaxes and doesn't have to worry about shit. The food they're handing out isn't even theirs to begin with, it was given by the food bank, and people still have to find some way to be petty dicks about it.

 

daaaaam that's messed up. It really infuriates me when my own community acts like that. We can't combat racism with racism, and honestly they were wrong for treating you like that. I may not be the ambassador for black people, but I'm going to apologize to you anyway for them

 

It's all good. Shitty people are going to be shitty people regardless of ethnicity. People just find different excuses for their shittiness and different ways in which to exercise it depending on who they are, where they are, so on and so forth.

Luckily these were just some random asshats who volunteered to cook and not actual food bank representatives. If they were I would have more of a problem with it, and would report it to their higher ups, but as it is it just isn't worth the hassle to cause a big fuss on a holiday over a couple hotdogs.

I've been having the same kind of dream for about the last week and a half, similar to the "my bed is now in a lecture hall and I forgot an assignment, now wake up and search your room at 3:00 AM to try to find it" dream I have occasionally during school. ironically I did get yelled at at work today but it was because I had a black widow spider crawling across my face and didn't notice it

 

unfortunately I know too many people that would be all "oh, but that's not discrimination" the strange dual standards of equality people have, like the pride group at my school not even wanting to talk to anyone not-LGBTQ+-alphabetsoup because "oh, they're straight, they don't deserve to talk to us"

 

Obviously it's not racism if your group has already been the victim of racism.

Unfortunately I don't have much in the way of experience with anger management. About the only advice I can give you is to calm down and go to your happy place. If you're at work, see if there's a job you can do alone for a while or take a bathroom break. If you're at home maybe take a walk or retreat to your room, put some music on if that helps.

But that would just create unnecessary evidence.
