Your first mistake was involving horseradish in any way whatsoever.

Aww, UPS, why you do that?

My package briefly showed it would be arriving a day early, but now it's back to arriving on time. Don't tease me, UPS!

I just read a very interesting article explaining why, despite the U.S. having a higher calcium intake in their diet than most other countries, we suffer the most from osteoporosis. Apparently foods and drinks have an acidic or basic effect on the body, but practically everything we love to eat is acidic (almost every meat, breads, pastas, cheese), the acidity builds up in our body which has a very narrow tolerance on PH differences (neutral is ideal 7.0-5), so it reaches to neutralize the acidis with the most abundant store of basic calcium we have, our bones. I couldn't find the reason why consuming calcium supplements doesn't help though. I love pastas and the only basic stuff is veggies and fruits which I find particularly difficult to consume in large quantities, le sigh

That's interesting. I was pretty sure fruits were acidic. I know citrus is VERY acidic. Beyond that, I would think that being drenched in stomach acid would make everything acidic before it moves on to the next step. Beyond that, the body has many other ways of dealing with acids and bases than directly neutralizing them. There are a few other reasons I find this a bit counter-intuitive, but I'd need to see the original article.

Horseradish is beautiful, and you should feel bad :(.

I have to make it convenient. Steaming is so easy to do: Toss in pot, boil the water, and the rest takes care of itself. Buy frozen stuff if you're afraid of it going bad.

Hopefully it does better than the movie did... that movie was awful.

Edit: Apparently that's fan made. Netflix left a comment on the video.
"Nope, this isn't an official Netflix teaser, but we won't call Count Olaf - THIS IS MOST MARVELOUS."

I thought citrus was acidic too, one of these articles said something about some foods swapping after being processed by your bod or something. *Link toss*

Cyborgs are both organic and mechanical, so you can still be half flesh bag.

I do have problems with these.

The first, Chirocare, has two major issues. They seem to be involved in chiropractic, which isn't scientifically supported. This alone doesn't make it wrong, but they also list no sources for their information, including the table. Once again, doesn't make them wrong, but those are serious red flags.

The second one does list sources. However, the most recent study it cites is from 2004 (over ten years ago). The majority of the studies are from the 70's and 80's. These are pretty old, and if the acid/base issue really held so true for osteoporosis, there would likely have been more recent studies, especially considering how hard and fast the nutrition industry grabs on to these things. They also don't provide actual links to the listed studies, which is a red flag for another type of issue, where some sites will put sources that either don't exist or don't actually support the finding, hoping nobody will actually try to read them. Not saying they're doing this, but it's a much more common problem than you'd think.

And the third article simply cites the first two articles, making it's information not really valuable to the discussion.

There may be other causes for the high rates of osteoporosis. As the article says:
These are areas with relatively high life expectancies, leading to increased rates of age-related diseases. More importantly however, there have been more recent studies (a few years ago) showing that drinking milk actually does NOT reduce the risk of osteoporosis, and in fact increases it. They found that the best sources of dietary calcium were things like yoghurt and cheese.

And of course, after saying this, I do not have any sources for this information on hand, so be sure to take things I say with a grain of salt as well.

well soda is basically a flavored carbonic acid solution... taking calcium without enough magnesium, phosphorous, and vitamin D for your body to actually use it in your bones, it won't do much. you need both parts or it doesn't work (very simplified from explaining in biochemistry terms)

also made some more spider friends today... a lot of new spider friends... dug up a spider nest... with my hands... yeah...

Technically, I didn't read them. They were audiobooks, most of which read by Tim Curry. <3

I read every single book...except for the last one. It mysteriously went missing from the school library.
