What Is On Your Mind?

To think, this dwarf planet is billions of years ancient...fascinating

 

It's reeeeeally cold and dark out there. It has 5 moons though so it's not lonely, but they're all in the dark and mostly made of ice.

They say there are signs of tectonic activity on the surface! While ancient it's probably not much older than the earth.

Just for clarity on why this is such a big deal consider how our photos looked before today.

 

Seriously though, how amazing are the people at NASA.

 

On my mind: Spontaneously combusting chickens. (couple people will know what I mean )
Can't wait to see how detailed the next set of Pluto photos will be. Besides curiosity, I wonder what this data will be used for.

 

I don't think they'll send the data to Curiosity.

Really love that artist and animator (Fred Perry.) Partly because he was a fellow FFXI player, and had a pretty fun to follow comic. Hope he's having some success these days.

 

Give them $650 million dollars and they'll fly a piano past an iceball 4.8 billion kilometres away to take pictures and study things!

It's all for telling us about the outer solar system and getting a sample of the dwarf planets sitting out there. We've never had a chance to study those lost worlds, which are really relics of the early solar system. Here's a rundown from wikipedia:

The goal of the mission is to understand the formation of the Pluto system, the Kuiper Belt, and the transformation of the early Solar System.The spacecraft will study the atmospheres, surfaces, interiors and environments of Pluto and its moons. It will also study other objects in the Kuiper Belt. By way of comparison, New Horizons will gather 5,000 times as data at Pluto as Mariner did at Mars.

Some of the questions the mission will attempt to answer are: What is Pluto's atmosphere made of and how does it behave? What does its surface look like? Are there large geological structures? How do solar wind particles interact with Pluto's atmosphere?[35]

Specifically, the mission's science objectives are to:

• map the surface composition of Pluto and Charon
• characterize the geology and morphology of Pluto and Charon
• characterize the neutral atmosphere of Pluto and its escape rate
• search for an atmosphere around Charon
• map surface temperatures on Pluto and Charon
• search for rings and additional satellites around Pluto
• conduct similar investigations of one or more Kuiper Belt objects

It rained really hard earlier and now it's sunny, blustery, and gorgeous. The wind is perfect... air always has been my element. I brought a folding chair to a part of the driveway that turned into a stream/marsh and am enjoying the weather with my waterproof shoes and my outback hat on. My poor ginger cat came up wanting attention, but the gravel is soaked here. He walked around chittering and shaking water off his paws, and tried lying down only to get that half of him wet. He's currently peering at me from a dry spot ten feet away.

so I saw a fur group on meetup.com. Doubt I'll ever go to an event though. Always on a day I'm working and it's a bit of a drive. :/ Oh well. Nice to dream.

 

Just saw what I think was a blue angel literally fly off into the sunset. He was pretty low, too.

 

Feeling nervous because I feel like my s.o. has suddenly changed his mind or gotten confused on wanting to be with me but I'm probably over thinking like I usually do when I get emotionally attached to someone....

 

My sister's birthday today, she's 19 and legal to drink now so her and a couple friends are drunk off their asses. Messing with them is kinda funny. There's also a helium tank and a large supply of balloons for them to mess around with.
