@scalie I just began to wonder. How much experience do you have in metalworking, and in what areas/techniques? I half-remember what Rasha told me about his, but two people are better than one for what I'd have in mind.

Morning all. Past couple of days have been kinda stressful and the next couple of days aren't going to be much different. I'm excited to be moving as well as learning all sorts of stuff involving the house but at the same time I'm dreading it.

So no experience hammering softer metals like copper? I believe Rasha said he had worked with it in some way, either hammering or casting.

Also, that reminds me. Anyone know where I can contact the Willow from the DH Skype? Ex-Marine, lives in Nevada? I remember him talking about having worked copper, and wanting to work silver and gold....

I know how to work copper. copper isn't too hard to work, you just have to anneal it every so often so it doesn't crack or tear. I know the basics of doing repouse and chasing work but I don't have a setup for it yet. fully annealed copper is so soft you can easily bend it with your fingers. what are you trying to have made, because knowing that will make it much easier to say whether I can help you or not

Decorative candle holders, of the wide candle variety (tealights, 4oz, 8oz, etc). Though now that I think about it, if anything that might be better done with copper casting......though....detailing would be best done done with acid etching, right?

I don't know the trade, just some grab bag terminology and facts, so pardon my ignorance. I would like to learn someday though (there's so many things I want to learn to make or do....).

To go into more detail, I guess what I am picturing would be sorta the model characters for the adult toy company idea we were playing with, laying in romantic or suggestive but not quite lewd poses, sort of "holding" the candle in it's lap or arms, or on it's back if it were laying on it's belly so to speak. Sorta a gift shop type thing.

I dunno. Bad Dragon only has silly shits-and-giggles type novelties aside from their actual products, like the silicone shot glasses, dice, lanyards, etc....I thought it'd be cool to offer candles and nice candle holders, soaps, etc to go with the dildos and such. At the very least it'd make for a better "gift addition" to the purchase if you were getting it for someone special, than a pen emblazoned with the company logo or a tiny novelty dildo/penetrable.

Did I mention I'm a think tank on overdrive sometimes?

it would depend on the look you want to go for. repouse and chasing can give you some really intricate patterns and figural forms, forging from sheet will usually give more of an organic shape, casting you can do almost anything, but casting will also likely cost the most once you find a place that can even handle that. steel is by far the cheapest option and you can treat it special ways to give it a different appearance. acid etching would work but it will give you low relief details, carving, engraving or chasing will usually give you more refined and detailed results

it's never too late to learn, I've been teaching myself a ton of this stuff and currently I'm trying to get into making jewelry which requires a whole new set of tools and techniques to learn. with the internet you have more learning resources at your fingertips than anyone before you in human history

I just really care about the movie industry. I wish I was more of a film buff but it's something I'm trying to get into step by step :)

Oh and this leaked today. I'm really not sure how I feel about it. It has all the crappy episodic feel of some of the original star trek movies, I'm just wishing this franchise could figure out how to do something interesting and actually make it feel like star trek for once.
