And that's the wonderful thing about opinions. People don't have to agree! So long as they don't start little wars over differing opinions it's more diverse that way.
I personally think it's more complicated, with SOME Bronies being a branch off of the furry fandom, and others being their own subculture based around the show/merchandise/whathaveyou. Just like how someone who's into....perhaps the Gundam series, might not consider themselves to be into anime much; they don't identify with it's subculture, they just enjoy the mechs in it like they do the BattleTech franchise, for example, because mechs are cool to them.
