I think I need to hear how you tripped and accidentally acquired a vehicle

I just love my cars, and get a little over enthusiastic sometimes... was at the car dealer to get my tyres changed and saw the gtr, so asked to go on a drive in it while waiting.

20 minutes later I was signing to buy it

Speaking of cars, we got a couple orders for the new 2017 R8s, Q7s, and A4s.

Oh if only I had the money. I'd grab an R8 or an RS7 in a heartbeat.

Precisely! They're the CV flatslides, and not quite downdraft but not quite...sidedraft? They're an oddity shared with the Suzuki RF600/RF900 so parts are no problem even though this is a Japanese market only bike. Mikuni's are the best of the bunch IMO and quite easy to tune...if you don't have a misfiring engine. They speed restricted this bike to 180km/h. Disconnect the speedo? It cuts two cylinders off. Remove the warning light? Same thing. I'm sure there's other lovely things I'm gonna find but I will persist and win. I'm very good with tuning and can read plugs like nobody else.

I have 50rwhp out of this little 400cc inline four but I know it has more, it's a '90 GK76A if you're curious, otherwise known as the GSXR400SP. It's making me miss tuning two strokes they are way way way easier to deal with!

I never really understood the appeal of wanting to own fancy, expensive cars.

eh, its just a thing some people enjoy. I don't get people who collect coins. Its like..........why? they don't DO ANYTHING, you can't even use them for what they're meant for (spending). But its their hobby and I respect that yo

For me, its the appreciation of a fine piece of engineering.

See I'm the opposite. I can understand people who collect coins (I think it's because I'm one of those people), I don't understand people who spend a sum of money equal to a house on a car that you can't live out of and that has really no redeeming qualities other than being a status symbol (which I've always found to be petty and stupid).
I guess where I'm going with this is that I don't equate buying expensive cars as a hobby.

Now that I can understand, it's the people who actively spend tons of money on obtaining those kinds of cars that I don't get.

Most car collectors collect them because of the history of story behind each vehicle. There are some that just blow money on a new car every month, who don't really appreciate what they're getting. They just want a new toy. But then you have people like Jay Leno, who I'd (jokingly) blow just to spend a day in his garage.

Its just something some people like, as with anyone who collects stuff. Your reasons are your own.

I had a feeling if anyone was going to pipe up and connect with you on that, it'd be Kyvin. :p
To be fair, I don't really know much about you, finding out you're big on the mechanical workings and tuning of cars and motorcycles is a nice window into who Serathaiya is~

I have ZERO respect for people who blow tens of thousands of dollars on shiny because they need to be "someone". I have a bit more respect for people who put down tens of thousands of dollars on shiny if it actually has a practical application other than being a bigger and fancier bike. Especially if they actually need the level of purchase they made for legitimate reasons, such as if it's actually critical to your job that you get THAT car instead of the one that costs $20K less.

EDIT: I can also respect people who buy cars, but also know how to strip a car down and upgrade and outfit the fuck out of it, because depending on their goal or tastes, chances are they make it more efficient and practical afterwards than when they bought it, especially if that kind of thing happens to be their dayjob or something people commission them to do or they resell the better version to someone who wants it.

As for the mention of collecting coins, well. I suppose if you can afford it, and it's not ludicrously expensive, what's the harm in collecting coins? It's like me and collecting pretty shells or stones, only not as big or heavy.

Every car I've bought, minus my first that my folks bought me when I got my license (a 1995 GMC Jimmy) was always purchased for a specific purpose.

My Jeep was used to drive myself and friends, or my little sister and her friends around. Now that they're all gone, I got myself a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS as I use to drive across the bay while training for my AMP, and now I use it to drive around the state on weekends to meet friends. If I had the money to purchase and maintain a "flashy" car, I'll admit I'd use it just to show off. It would be my toy, to use whenever I wanted to go on a drive, show off to someone, or maybe go out on a very fancy date with someone.

Fuck that part of society, for the most part they're a bunch of wankers with small minds, something I despise greatly.
Yes, I'm not surprised to be honest. We've chatted a bit in the past. How @Kyvinaria guessed I was messing with Mikuni's though...sounds like she's had the same fun I have fooling with carbs, and Mikuni's are the good ones. I can only imagine some of the other monstrosities...like the Hitachis on some Yamaha Viragos....BARF! Fiddling with those is torture. If someone brings me a 80's Virago with carb problems they better have a lot of beer or a fat wallet.

Hehehe~ if you do a bit of Serathaiya stalking you may find I've posted more about myself that I normally would but you guys are a great bunch so I don't mind.

And that whole "I have to be someone cool to make up for my small penis or whatever"...yikes...I see that everywhere here. In Vancouver, all the Asians have bought the houses here so they have some big coin. Well, not a day goes by that I don't see some douche driving something they can only dream to drive to it's full potential. If it wasn't for the computer doing the fancy stuff for them, they'd be fucked. No ABS, traction control, etc...would be a sight to behold, not that anything new has much soul anyway. I'd rather be turning wrenches or swearing at shitty points and then scaring myself half to death because I pinned it and the brakes suck...aka...operating the machine myself, then have something else make decisions for me.

Hey, I like to be responsible for my stupidity!

@Serathaiya Oh, you're in Vancouver? I went there for the GSA meeting in '14, it's a pretty cool city.

I move around a lot, currently I'm there though. I can't say I hate it but I can't say I like it either.

Being brutally honest, I want out. BAD. You should see how people drive here, signal lights are optional and when a traffic light turns yellow it means floor it!

I know some folks who buy cars to fix them up, like my stepdad.

As for me, I collect rocks as.well. haven't in years but I still have the jar.
