On a...somewhat related note, there's this Tumblr page/group that is literally dedicated solely to criticising the "problematic" things the Youtube group Yogscast say and do. I sometimes go take a gander for a laugh, but holy shit, the most recent complaints are sooo petty. Calling them racist for doing silly accents (not even saying anything overtly offensive) and ableist for jokingly exaggerating the symptoms of OCD.
This particular little fanclub are exactly the kind of people you expect them to be too; the kind of super normal, average Tumblr dwellers with special snowflake syndrome that believe it is their duty to feel offended on behalf of actual minorities. Seriously, as far as I can tell, 9/10 are white, the 2 that created the group are 16 and 18, the other 8 are 14-20, and all but one of them identify as non-binary and demisexual. Oh, and one of their taglines is "there is no “innocent until proven guilty” on the internet".
Like, these people are absolutely fucking pathetic if this is all they have to do. They act like they're some sort of super serious force of moral superiority waking up the sheeple to the disgusting injustices of society...by bitching about the most frivolous, trivial bullshit that comes up around a group of gaming friends on Youtube that they alone and a handful of other people decide are offensive.
Seriously, one of the other recent acts of being "problematic" was due to the 3 Hat Films part of the Yogscast doing "blackface". Sounds terrible, until you put into context that they were acting in a short video as Texan miners in the "Wild West" style and period. This "blackface" was a spray-on tan being used to make the miners look like, well, dirty miners. Absolutely NOTHING, not a single damn word, was even indicative of a racial reference, but that didn't stop these little assholes from jumping on their hate bandwagon.
The worst part is that they actually almost broke friendships within the Yogscast by spreading around their bullshit. Probably the worse thing they've done is accuse one of the members of pedophilia and rape, based on frankly laughable "evidence". Screenshots of iPhone conversations, showing the user talking to a "Paul" and "Paul" asking for nudes of a person they already knew was underage. Seriously, that's all they had. 3 screenshots that could have been faked several times over. And, wouldn't you have guessed it, said accuser "didn't want to go to the police" and "just wanted everything to die down". People even offered to escort her to the police, check the validity of the phone conversations, have copies of the phone's files, pretty much anything to prove that she was telling the truth. Surprise, surprise, she turned all of them down and went into hiding, still bitching about everything. As you can imagine, from Tumblr, this guy got such a huge fucking backlash from fans and haters alike, and he still hasn't been able to rid himself of the reputation of being a predator and pedo.
It's one thing wanting to make people think critically, it's another thing entirely to nitpick and police absolutely everything to an impossibly high and personal sensitivity, then drag everyone else into your own delusions, break up relationships and smear reputations just to feel sort of special.
TL;DR: Tumblr sucks and children still shouldn't be allowed on the internet.
