    eh, I'd fuck a consenting clone of myself, but I don't think having pride in yourself or your own body really counts as a sexuality unless you're just only attracted to yourself

    bleh, can't sleep. ended up reading a long article about the CRISPR response and how some scientists have run tests with it to find a way to destroy genetic material from HIV within host immune cells to prevent future viral replication and transmission to other cells, though CRISPR is a little controversial in humans since it has potential to erase and recode damaged sections of the genome in embryos that normally would never survive past a week or two of development. definitely has some interesting potential uses, but anytime anything -could- potentially be used for human genome alteration, especially in development, no matter how potentially helpful the results could be, it usually gets stonewalled. the chinese scientists that ran a few small scale tests were barely able to get their article published after a few other journals just ignored them. as much as we really don't need anything that will help populations grow faster it still has interesting potential for treating diseases and possibly even cancers

    Most any new discoveries and research these days regarding genetics, stem cells, etc quickly devolve into a battle between the folks who want to cash in on the potential goldmine they see, and the folks who want to stop it in the name of ethics and "ethics" (I say it like that because what defines an ethic, is whose mouth it comes from and their interests and views). Usually the folks who want it to truly be put to good use get shoved aside one way or another.

    Besides, who wants a cure to cancer when the hell of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and drugs are incredibly profitable to their providers? Amirite.

    At the cost of doubleposting I felt it'd be more appropriate to split two topics and moods.

    Honestly? I don't think it's bad at all, as long as it doesn't fall into Narcissism. I mean, I still have a particular posterior view saved that I took for a friend, and occassionally share with another friend or two. Sometimes, I forget it's my ass I'm looking at, and my thoughts are "You know, I'd tap that.". My self-confidence is often crap, I don't like everything about my body, but when that happens it at least gives me a bit of a boost.

    Now what defines a "foine hawtie" if I may inquire? :p

    Now that's just naïve, everybody wants to cure cancer, and anybody who did would be selling their results to somebody else if the usual channels weren't supportive. Imagine the shit storm if an American oncologist discovered a cure and then had to sell it to the Chinese because the American system was rigged in some giant conspiracy to sell suffering. Everybody wants to sell a cure and everybody wants to sell a better cure at a higher price than the competition. Nobody wants to sell suffering, just imagine the mark-up on something that works. Thousands of dollars for the usual ineffective treatments or tens or even hundreds of thousands for a cure that actually works.

    Never mind that the ethics debates have largely subsided today. Those distractions are very much in the past. So much work has been done to study stem cells, at great pain, without embryonic sources. That was the source of most of the issue, and we've got lots of ways of doing stem cell research now that don't tread on anybody's fragile ethics.

    @Velixer Happy birthday darling!!!!

    As for myself I am trying to psyche myself up to head into town. I hate days when I am unmotivated and a hermit sometimes.

    Yeah that's the face I make any time somebody starts sounding even remotely like they think all the cures to all life's ailments are out there but companies prefer to make money off existing ineffective treatments. If they even imply that killing people is more profitable than selling a cure for an unavoidable collection of diseases I go for a double face palm.

    Let me explain. Ai is made by humans? No matter how the AI learns, it will ALWAYS be suceptible to human error. I mean look at HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Previous models of HAL never had issues, except for him.

    AI can progress into anything if it's original creator doesn't limit it. AI can learn faster than a human and has the capability of storing everything it learns. Especially if the AI doesn't have to deal with the complexities of movement such as humans do. If you do not limit what the AI can learn it can develop itself into something quite amazing or quite hostile.

    I went out to check on our tangelo and orange trees this morning. It seems the bees were successful in pollinating the blossoms.

    Don't know if I've mentioned it before, but Disturbeds sound of silence cover is the grossest thing I've ever heard.

    my citrus tree hasn't popped a single blossom yet, despite a feeding and regular watering, though to be honest some kind of critter is always stealing the budding fruit anyway :0
