Not to step in anything too big, but I would like to point out that there are actual cures for things being sold right now, such as Hepatitis C, that did not previously exist. Plenty of treatable diseases would be more profitable if people had a long, drawn out stay in a hospital, but antibiotics exist and they will in fact give them to you. Leprosy, pneumonia, bacterial bronchitis, staph (and other) infections, heart disease, organ failure in general, and other operable diseases all have cures/functional fixes and if you go to a medical professional you'll get them. The real problem with cancer isn't that there's some kind of cure out there that pharmacy companies will keep from us in order to make us slaves to expensive treatments, it's that cancer is really goddamn hard to cure.

Edit: this whole thing got me curious about what the arguments against health care as a fundamental human right might be. Not that I 100% agree with it (and I kinda chafe at most libertarian things), but it does raise some interesting points. In a perfect world, those who cannot afford health services would be able to access them through the charity of others; the issue with that is the fact that not enough people are charitable, or that charities are not efficient enough in their resources to truly help their target group.
    Anyways, here's the article: http://libertarianstandard.com/articles/gabriel-e-vidal/healthcare-is-not-a-human-right/

    The study of society.

I am currently debating on subscribing to Japan Crate. For the premium box I get 12-14 items, plus a drink and a revolving item. $30 a month for these snacks. AUGH THE DILEMMA!

If someone could "cure" my asthma and Type 1, I'd be so happy.

Anyway. Day 1 of inspections done, day 2 starts tomorrow. Whether we pass or not means the difference between losing or gaining close to a couple million dollars for the dealership. Hopefully some of that trickles down for me and my Porter team.

I think I'm done with this argument. I feel like I'm wasting my time here. I'm not disagreeing that profits are a driving force of pharmaceutical industry decisions. Which seems to be what youre hung up on. You're just insisting over and over again that cures aren't as profitable as treatments, and yet as Abylgan pointed out, that isn't the way the industry actually works today. It just shows how distracted you are from the point I was trying to make. I don't think you even watched the video I posted, he made a point about how some adjunct treatments don't get patented because we already have better ones, and we can't patent some products because of their nature. Read this sentence, I know the industry is greed driven. The video i posted actually made that point. Now if I wanted to continue this I'd ask you to explain to me how cures aren't profitable without insisting that somehow a high price isn't a good enough notice to actually sell them. Like I'm not sure if you think cancer treatments are lifelong cash cows, because they're not, most of them, by a large margin, lead directly to the patient's expiration in a short time frame and contribute to suffering such that any alternative would be desirable at more or less any price. You can't continue to make money off a market that dies because your product is ineffective. I'm not even talking about preventing cancer, but curing it. And that's the key. Meaning people have the potential to keep getting other cancers even if they get a cute once. You're telling me a product that prolongs the lifespan of the customer and allows them to contract numerous other cancers which all require treatment in the course of a life is somehow less profitable than a few months of chemo, radiation and eventual death in palliative care? Like it just doesn't make sense but it sounds like what you're insisting. People don't take anti-cancer meds for the rest of their natural 80 year life. They either beat it at great cost or they die. What you're arguing is not that the industry is greedy, but stupidly greedy and completely short-sighted. The evidence does not bear that out in the slightest. Hundreds of thousands of oncologists aren't in on some conspiracy. Thousands of journals aren't denying research. Billions of dollars of research doesn't keep producing results that nobody uses. Like what the fuck is the point of this argument other than that you seem to think the pharmaceutical industry only has one idea about how to make money.

I'm glad we agree. It's nice when agreement happens, though disagreement is where broadening one's understanding comes from. Shame you aren't responding to any of my argument points, though.

I'll look into this information, thank you. I'm not always right, and while critical and as a friend pointed out cynical, I don't try to be right, I try to learn what is. Personally I'm fond of equal access to health care, either we all get the same opportunity for treatment or no one does...

Jazzi, you're always piquing my curiosity in something. Though I wonder how much of those snacks one can get at a local Asian market? I had shrimp crackers from one, once, they were really good.....

I'm not interested in talking to somebody who sounds progressively more and more like the only thing they know is that big pharma is evil and all the cures to every disease are out there behind a pay wall because greed is the only driving force affecting the availability of products. I've spent enough time arguing with psychics and Mormons and Moon-landing-deniers and all the rest to know when an argument is pointless.

Thankfully my mother gave me plenty of practice in recognizing self-validated viewpoints, whose owners will contort everything to fit into their comfortable perspective of reality, and either deny the contrary or lash out in an attempt to discredit those who present alternate opinions.

There's conspiracy theories, and there's taking your head out of the sand. I'm sorry if you're spoiled by single-payer health care, and cannot comprehend that another country is not so fortunate. Quite frankly I'm not amused.

Jesus christ. Stop it already. If you two can't play nice then you need to just not address each other. Yeah, Exeter needs to not poke the bear so to speak, but Rassandra, you need to knock yourself down a few pegs. There's no need to respond to every single debate by going for the throat. This is supposed to be a safe space where people act decently, and there's not many of us. If you want to involve yourself in internet arguments where everyone else is the enemy, this is not the place for it.

xD Sorry, I get a bit worked up in arguments. I'll tone it down. I really don't hold any ill will to the decent folks on here, I just have a bit of an issue with seeing a lack of logic.

In other news, I am really feeling the urge to cook for some folks on here. Need to see if I can help arrange something like that in a get together in the future.

Got to read a good amount of my mother's book today.
Holy. Shit. It is such a damn good story!!
And yes this may seem bias because she's my mother, but I honestly believe that this story is an excellent read and I'm loving every minute of it!
Character development is fantastic and the plot is very strong.
I'd love to see more people show interest in the story and see it's success grow. :D

@Rassandra Gendal we don't have an Asian grocery here. The closest I can get to that is a separate website that's an only grocery store for Japanese food and not just snacks and candy. I'd probably end up buying from that site instead f getting a box of random candy because I won't k ow if I like it til it comes in.

You reminded me of a certain video I found on 4chan and downloaded. If I remember I'll upload it to the TMI thread.

Today I was working on a set of forks from a 1981 KZ550. Said forks have air nozzles on them to adjust dampening.

Idiot working on them didn't bleed them of air and proceeded to loosen the oil drain bolt and got an entire face and hair full of old fork oil as well as messing the shop up. How idiot didn't get a severe bitching at and instead got laughed at by the boss is beyond me.

So...care to guess who the idiot is?

    Wasn't me I swear....yeah uh-huh....

Finally read the Magicians trilogy. Skip it the Sci-Fi Series is better.

The first book; Main guy is mega nerd, learns of magic college. Does pathetic and is not as cool as any of his friends. Done. Okay a monster does break into the school and eat someone; later the cast kills it but that was 4 pages of battle after 200+ of the main character being a whiny bitch.

Book 2, now we get to the point where the real world fucks off and the cast is in a land of magical creatures. Then the cast gets bored. Why, no challenge for them. Main guy fucks up. Gets lost in the real world with no way back and finds out why his cohort is Soooo much more Powerful. Clue; fox God, botched ritual, and a lot of grunting. Then they save all magic from the old gods. Trust me that is about as much description you get on how they did it.

Book 3. Some theft. the magic college is a real dick on rules. Magical world is at war. Slacker character takes the lead. Main guy brings a person back from dead. Kills a god and creates his own magical land with his girlfriend. End

So the producers of the series went, "We like your characters, their development, and the world's they live in. The issue is your plot sucks. So yeah
