started hand sanding the bevels on that knife. definitely the longest and most tedious part of the process, especially considering i'll have to do it again after heat treat. wish i'd switched from the 40 grit to 80 grit belt sooner while grinding, now I have some pretty deep scratches to take out

 

Finally all unpacked and settled in safely back home.
So tired and I gotta go to work early tomorrow morning...yay.

That feeling when you're excited about something and have next to nobody to share it with. Feeling mighty lonely lately.

 

@Exeter , I know the feeling. I have a backlog of emotions and a never-ending flood of love and affection for a person, but for reasons I can't say, that love and affection remains...locked away. Which leaves me feeling lonely. Being single sucks sometimes.

Okay serious question, a commission is coming together of Exeter, but the artist tried something interesting with the head.



What do you guys think of the change? In case you can't tell it's he side horns, normallytheyre just smaller horns at the side but he's made them part of a huge jaw and made he the same colour as the jaw. I can't decide how I feel about it just yet. It's not completely finished yet obviously but still, what do you think?

 

I've been subbed to them for a while. honestly i wish they would make a separate channel so i wouldn't get all the other junk the network uploads. I've learned quite a few things watching them that led to more research. one of the smiths, Ilya Alekseyev was on forged in fire (and won) this past season. unfortunately most of the employees don't seem to post much about their work on any social media. as far as that build went, meh. the chasing work on the handle was interesting but overall structurally it would be better to overlay the metal onto wood or solder it to another metal for the handle, then again it is a massive kitchen knife. other than the neatness of the etching design and successful forge welding for the carbon steel core it isn't that amazing of a blade to me. I would definitely recommend watching them to anyone interested in doing metalwork or bladesmithing because they show a lot of the process and some interesting techniques.
