Glad to hear you're fine. Hoping your person is as well.

I'm at a friend's house who lives maybe five or ten minutes away from where it happened. Still a good amount of cops in the area and a few roads closed. The line donate blood is insanely long, last I heard.

 

Oh, I was just saying that I'm halfway expecting to find out I knew someone there, not that I do.

And probably a bad time, but if you're that close, you're more than welcome to drop by.

 

I'm back home in Tampa now, but thanks for the offer.

Mo and I have a few friends in Orlando. It seems none were there, but they knew some people that were planing to go.
Not heard anything yet.
Still, we're sad to hear about such violent tragedy.........Hope no one here was affected.

Tragic losses, keep your heads high.

 

I think it hit me when I heard the local midday radio talk host talking about it...then the afternoon talk host... then the morning talk host... then the entire crew of the afternoon program... then various other people from other shows...

None of these people ever come in on Sunday, none of the hosts are ever on a show together, and none of them ever come in for any sort of special broadcast ever, yet they all came in to discuss what happened. It's kind of like when you show up to work and everyone who draws a paycheck is standing there. Like "shit, what's happening right now?"

 

I'm totally going to climb our cherry tree tomorrow and I'm taking pictures of the view! I can get so high in it, it reminds me of my childhood. X3

 

I kinda want another knotted toy but almost all the knoted toys have similar dimensions these days....

 

When I woke up I had a google news alert about the Orlando shooting, all it mentioned was 20 people were killed in a violent shooting at a club. Imagine my surprise later when I learned it was 50 people and it was a gay club. Both seem like salient details to leave out or report incorrectly.

This is something I posted on my Facebook account on my thoughts about what happened Sunday. I feel like I should share it here for people directly or indirectly affected.


"I feel like I say this a lot when something like what happened in Orlando late Sunday night, but I want to bring it up again. Not to drive home a point, or to end arguments about the cause, but just to hopefully help people heal and move on.

The reason people commit atrocities like the Orlando massacre, the Boston Bombing, and other acts, is because they can't affect people on a larger level using a different method. The only weapon they can really use is fear, and it's that fear that has the ability to suppress and divide us. The darkness and evil people like this wields has the power to shape our lives. Don't let them.

Don't let them have the satisfaction of watching us hide under the covers from monsters in the dark like little children. Or run up the basement steps after turning the lights off. These people are monsters.

The best way to combat this is to remain vigilant in our everyday life, don't be afraid to go out and do your usual things. Be informed on how and be ready to act in the worst case scenarios. The biggest fist raised in defiance, middle finger wrapped in a rainbow ribbon (in this case) we can give to people like this is to live our lives to the fullest. The best way to defeat a monster is to not show fear, but solidarity and strength.

Along with that, help people affected by it in their time of grief and sadness, give and/or do what you can for the families of those lost. Show compassion and care in a real and effective manner if you are able. Don't just say some words or change your social media pictures. Two working hands are much, much more effective than a thousand clasp in prayer.

This whole post was really just a ramble put together during small spots of downtime. It's not 100% of what I'm trying to say as I'm not good with words, much more skilled in speeches. But I hope I kind of get my point across."

 

Not sure what Google's problem is, but I read something on CNN's site the morning of and it had all the correct info there was at the time. The name of the club, the fact that it is gay club, the number of people injured and dead, that one cop who survived a headshot thanks to his helmet, and the fact that the 9 officers took the guy down. It had other info like how ISIS is praising his actions on extremist Islamic forums. No word as to whether or not he was actually connected.

 

I particularly like the part about helping hands vs hands clasped in prayer.

 

I wish I remembered who said it.
