I would recommend Fedex Intl. Priority, because Fedex do (for a small fee) all the custom clearance for you and after a few days when your order is delivered you get a bill that you have to pay.
However, if your bill exceeds a certain amount (it happened to me for a large order of almost $ 3k), you have to pay it directly at the front door or when picking up the package.
These are my expirience when I ordered from BD and shipped them to germany^^

Honestly What I would do is look at the customs/tariff costs and if they are high enough just ship it to a friend in the USA and have them ship it to me as a "gift" or whatever evades customs/tariffs.

That said you would have to ask another person living in Germany about how good they are at getting stuff to you.

If they are custom made toys do consider the possibility of it taking months for them to ship your toy, some people pay for really fast shipping and forget this fact. But honestly unless one of the companies is really bad in your area either are probably fine. I mean DHL isn't in that list so your fine with probably any choice.

    Hi.
Well, I live in Poland and I have used the FedexInternational Economy and it has worked just fine. The shipping came on time and didn't have any problem with customs.
Also, like Duo Maxwell said, you can pay the taxes when you receive your package.

Once I received a mail from customs, they asked me to fill a custom form but it was short and I had no problem at all. It didn't even change the waiting time much, maybe a day or something.

It was on November-December last year though. I don't know if there are having delays now given the global situation.
