For some reason this kind of reminded me of similiar dialogue in Mass Effect 3 during missions for Legion. At least I believe it was in ME3.

I think I read on TVTropes that one of the ME games has the player character and an NPC having a snark war lampshading game mechanics, tropes, etc every time they're on a mission together.

"Why do they keep coming in WAVES? They'd pose much more of a threat all at once."

"Don't give them any ideas!"

Stuff like that. Even if it "breaks the immersion", I always love it when at least one of the characters in a game is witty and meta-aware, bonus points if they only do it around certain others, who specifically acknowledge them as not being crazy.
