I've been wondering for some time now if their are any actual fursuitters on this forum or even some creators that can help us noobies just starting out in fursuit creating.
Pictures of you guys and girls in your furry personas would be awesome.

I do believe a creator of fursuits is planning on making an actual book revealing all the secrets to making your own furry persona.

What methods did you use to create your first suit?

My first suit was pretty...bad lol. Do not expect your first suit to ever be amazing. It may be bad, it may be acceptable, but it will never be the one that you are 100% happy with. Don't feel bad about it, because it is a learning experience and it's how you get even better. :)
I recommend making your first suit into one that you auction off, so that you get cash back to try again for your actual suit.

I looked up a lot of tutorials before making my first and it still looked a little wonky, and had a lot of manufacture and ventilation issues.

I made the head out of foam and balaclava. I used an electric craving knife and scissors to shape it, gluing it together with hot glue.

I have seen tutorials for shaping and stuff but what is the balaclava for?
Also how do you put the fur on so nicely?

Oh! You want to get a mannequin head, put the balaclava on that, and then glue the foam to the balaclava and shape it on there. It's nice because then you don't have raw foam rubbing on your face which is extremely unpleasant.

For furring, after you finish the foamwork, go out and get cheap duct tape. Cover the head in duct tape and draw on the patterns. Use a box cutter knife to carefully cut off the tape and stick 'em onto a laid out roll of wrapping paper. Make sure you also use arrows so you know which way the fur pile should lay.
Cut the shapes out of the wrapping paper, I just use wrapping paper so that the back of the tape doesn't stick everywhere.
Trace out the shapes onto the different colors of fur, cut them out with a box knife (don't use scissors because they will cut the pile. Box cutters cut the back of the fabric without cutting the fur so it looks a lot nicer.)
Then, sew all the face pieces together, and glue it onto the head itself :)

So where would I be able to purchase a mannequin head from? (Sorry if it seems a daft question)

If you know of anyone who went to beauty school, ask them! Thats how I ended up getting mine, but I'm sure you could find some on Ebay or something similar!

I know some hairdressers sadly not beauticians but I am sure they may have a spare mannequin head somewhere from old practice sessions. I'll have to ask when I next pop in.

Also what's the best fur like material to use?

    @SnowLycan

Just make sure that the mannequin head is close to the dimensions of actual heads, not the freakishly small ones. It makes your life a lot easier, trust me.

I like to order my fur from DistinctiveFabric.com or Mendels.com

I really like their quality the best for the price and the customer service has always been wonderful with me :)
DON'T get anything from Joann fabrics x.X It's very cheap fur there.

If you're luckier than me and you have alegit fabric store that specializes in faux furs, go there!

Well, I don't have a working camera, HOWEVER, my boyfriend is moving in with me and he does, so I'm sure he won't mind if I use it to snap some WIP step-by-step pics for you all :) <3
