    whoops, sorry D:
interesting though since the red stuff may be Tholins created by exposure of other hydrocarbons and nitrogen compounds to UV radiation that would actually act as a UV blocker for the planet's surface. it's also hypothesized that Tholins may have been utilized as food for early bacteria on earth.

Naw there's no way in hell I'd ever play Dead Space :p

It's interesting the think about Pluto having a complex chemistry, a complicated atmosphere, complicated geology and planetary dynamics, and not to mention it's losing atmosphere to Charon bit by bit.! Who knows what's going on there, sounds like a lot of cool stuff! We have to assume there are similar processes or something even weirder out on the other trans-Uranian objects too!

Pluto gives us a glimpse of what's probably happening on most worlds in the universe. Cold, barren, far-flung, with interesting processes working away in the dark!

I mean, they could be warmer because they're darker and absorbing more sunlight than the white bands, but they've probably accounted for albedo already.

They think the white bands have amonia ice crystals in them and they're being channeled together for.... Reasons.... They have no explanation for the dark ones. And this is all just the outermost layer... There's so much going on underneath... From liquid metallic hydrogen to a liquid/solid metallic core... It's a weird place

Jupiter is one of the most fascinating planets out there.
I demand more Neptune facts because it's my favorite of the planets <3

What's cool about the N1, beyond the look of the beast, was that it represented the desperation and simultaneous ingenuity of the soviet space program. Each launch was different, and basically a trial run set up as a full flight attempt. Rather than split resources to efficiently try different things and run critical tests they just tried to make everything work in one go. The final result of all those explosions was twofold. On one hand they developed one of the most effective, if ludicrous, rocket engine designs yet conceived. To this day there is only one rocket in use that is objectively better. The other effect was that the soviet space program lost faith in the N1 and stopped trying. So of course, it would take decades and some capitalism for Americans to buy those bizarre engines and actually give them their first firing test. It was a real vindication to the engineers who designed them to finally see them not only work, but work perfectly, over 20 years later.

Imagine trying a crazy idea you had a handful of times, modifying it slightly each time, and finally, after one last night trying to design your way out of the problems. Fast forward a long time, open your game, dig around to see what stuff you had sitting in the saves. Find a crazy old rocket. Remember how it was a huge experiment for you at the time. Try it out. Realize you actually came up with a perfect design and should have tried it one more time before giving up.
