I've got a Garand, and considering the laws we have to jump through in california, this ends up being a great unrestricted choice. Still in college, so too poor to buy anything much else in terms of firearms right now though.
My family's also got a whole bunch of other stuff that I shoot back at home in 3 gun and USPSA as well. Mini 14, CAR-15 from the 80's, JR Carbine .45, Winchester 1300, Mossberg 500, Glock 21, Kimber Eclipse 1911, S&W 327 TRR8, M&P9, Glock 19, S&W 22a, Ruger sr22, Colt M-4 .22, An old singleshot Remington 510.
Also handload back at home as well. So many boxes of brass and bullets~

@zeta what do you think of the fnx? Also I'm jelly of your fal...

I've got a tnw ar-15, s&w 15-22, Beretta tomcat 22 and cougar .40, a little Italian vest pistol in .25 (6.3mm) whose brand I can never remember but it's like 60 years old and shoots like a dream, ruger sp100 revolver in 357, sks carbine, s&w model 422 target pistol, 1943 mauser with a custom sport stock, barrel shortened to 22" (lol) and chambered in 30.06. I think that might be everything.

Oh, and I'm eagerly awaiting the day I talk my grandfather into parting with his m1 carbine :D

since the .227 is falling out of the governments favor, I'd like to snatch up a Ruger Mini-14 while I can.

.227? If your talkinh about a mini14 you mean .223/5.56 If so walmart sells minis never been a fan of them and ar pattern rifils are cheap to build right now

Personally I think the mini 14 and whatever number the 7.62 version is called are good farm/plink guns but little else, like an American Kalashnikov- inaccurate, clunky, etc.

Also really unreliable and later iterations saw the QC fall through the floor.

Mostly the accuracy goes out the window when they get good and hot from firing, but if you're on a rest, squeezing rounds off slowly then most are pretty good.

I think you mean 7.62x51. There isn't an x30 caliber that exists currently. You could always roll your own make it, though XD
It's a battle rifle. If you're getting a 2MOA grouping then it's doing its job. People expecting 1MOA or less accuracy from anything that isn't a DMR or sniper platform are trying to have too much cake. Accurate, reliable, cheap. Choose two.
