GamerGate Scandal Debate Thread

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet, so I decided to go ahead and do it myself. In case nobody knows what GamerGate exactly is, InternetAristocrat made a few videos explaining it to a T, you can see them below:





So what do you guys make about all of this? I personally believe Video Game Journalism shouldn't be run based on favors, cover-ups, and pats in the back while the people who really deserve being covered don't because they don't "Scratch the journalists' back", corruption needs to fully disappear.

Fucking disgusting. I hadn't heard about this stuff. Just watched the first vid for now (will watch the other two when I get time), but this kind of crap is inexcusable. Using your vagina to get your way in the world then turning around and crying about oppression of women after shutting down an opportunity to promote female game makers is like the exact opposite of feminism and is the last thing the gaming industry needs. Plus, talking about nothing but oppression of women over and over ad infinitum really doesn't do shit for the actual problem, especially if you aren't taking positive actions like, I don't know, being female game makers that get by on their own merit.

As an aside, a simulation game about being depressed just sounds boring as hell. Why would I want to simulate a disease that I went through for years as a child? Depression fucking sucks, I already know that. Almost everyone who's ever lived knows that. That kind of thing isn't worthy of being on Steam.

 

The point is for the people who don't understand what having depression is like (the ones that say "you don't have anything to be sad about, so you should be happy!") to better understand the disease. They did a similar simulation for Alzheimers a few months ago, and people who have family members with Alzheimers were completely shocked to find out what it was like. The major thing about psychological disorders and imbalances is that they're almost impossible for most people to imagine, so having an effective simulation to more completely describe the issue would be an amazing tool for education and understanding/acceptance of such conditions.

 

What pisses me off the most about this whole ordeal is the fact she used sexual favors to get where she is, and not because of her own goddamn effort, to which isn't much considering her "game" sucks major ass, yet it passed Greenlight for some reason after people saying it didn't even deserve to be greenlighted.

More fuel to the fire is the fact she's accusing everyone who's not in her favor as "misogynists" and "trolls" when most of these people have legitimate questions on this topic.

 

It's pretty messed up... I watched some of the first video but the sound started to fade in and out. I will watch later.

I different issue and, while not entirely about her, it paints her in a different light, but who knows what's true anymore.

 

I think it's shitty to slut shame a girl after her asshole ex boyfriend posted personal information about her with the intent to damage her career. Even if she did get a few good reviews illegitimately (which I don't really believe) I don't think it warrants threats like this:
"Next time she shows up at a conference we [...] give her a crippling injury that’s never going to fully heal [...] a good solid injury to the knees. I’d say a brain damage, but we don’t want to make it so she ends up too retarded to fear us." -someone on 4chan, because of course. And the reposting of her personal information until people started harassing her at her house, and she had to start "couch surfing."

 

Well, all of what she did I do not approve of. As for slut-shaming... that's going to happen no matter what. It's not so much that she slept around it's WHO she slept with and for the reasons.
Now the only issue I have is the personal information... yeah, I know, who she slept with is personal but not talking about that. Posting a person address, phone, or any other kind of contact without that person consent... well, that's just bad all around.
Take that woman who developed a device for guns (something about making it coded so only the person who owns the gun can fire it). People where screaming that "she trying to take out guns away".... which, of course, was so not what she was doing. So she's walking to her front door, a guy comes out holding a gun at her. "Bet you wish you had a gun now, bitch". Now granted it was a squirt gun... but COME ON. What is wrong with people!! Does anyone ever step outside themselves and go... "damn, this is going too far?". This is not a logical person does... not what a productive member of society does.
My point... people should not post that kind of information for anyone to see. We have total nuts out there that will do stupid shit when they get the chance.

 

Zoe Quinn is just another shit stain. Throw her in with Anita Sarkessian and the rest of the people who don't know a single shred of whatever they're talking about. Whats frustrating, is that people buy into their bullshit. People like these and their mind fucked, blind followers is the reason I don't trust anyone's opinion.

OK so. Have any of you actually read the initial document that started this whole conspiracy? Yeah it reads exactly like what it is, the paranoid ramblings of an ex-lover that desperately wants to hurt someone by any means possible. I find it reeeeally difficult to believe that A) one moderately attractive girl was able to sleep with all of these people and extort them to do her bidding B) that this is revealing of gaming journalism in general and C) that any of the actions taken by zoe quinn are anything to do with "suppressing information" rather than trying to take down videos and posts that spread malicious lies and her personal information

I also think this s one of those situations where the response to a "problem" is waaaaaay more revealing that the initial "exposé" was.

 

I'm just going to say I'm glad I haven't formed an opinion on this.

 

I would like to know what reality you are living in where a "moderately attractive girl" isn't able to sleep with who she wants. All it takes is self-confidence and a lack of "morals". I honestly don't even care that she slept around. What I care is that she exchanged sexual favors to push a, quite frankly, pretty crappy Visual Novel about depression. As someone with actual depression, I'm offended that she decided to make it, and even if it had to be made, she made it seem as though people with depression can only live normal lives while heavily medicated when with enough self-control and self-awareness, one can fight it. I should know, I'm living proof. If I can do it, anyone can. She/They also did not add a reality to it, that sometimes the disease wins. Quite frankly, she's a prostitute. If she were just a prostitute for money, that wouldn't be a problem, but she isn't. She's in bed, literally, with game bloggers, I mean "gaming journalism", and while it doesn't affect me (I prefer to make my own opinions about games), it does affect others.

 

She also did professional nude modeling for a softcore porn site and then whined about people spreading her nudes around when they are something of public access.

SJWs like her always want to play the victim card, and funny shit is that people believe it.

 

I read a little interview with a lady who did a photoshoot with Zoe. I'll see if I can find it again.

 

I know which one you mean, her name is Mallorie Nasrallah on Facebook.

She basically says that Zoe told her she killed a man.

 

Oh it was a lot more than that, but that's who I was looking for.

 

Just read the post Mallorie did, holy crap does Zoe seem like someone mentally unbalanced to the point of being dangerous.
