PLEASE: Clean/SFW Avatars

I agree with what Caracal said! It would be pretty nice to have a poll. :3

I do think a SFW option would be nice. ;m; I mean, mostly because if I am not browsing the forums on my down time at work or out in society somewhere, I also am browsing them at home with my family around. Pretty sure my family would be appalled to see some NSFW avatars and ask me: "What the heck is going on!" ; m; I am too shy to explain myself!

 

Just scream, "I LEARNED IT FROM WATCHING YOU!"

I really don't like the nsfw avatars. They feel really unnecessary, and make the forum a lot less usable in public.

Like Dame mentioned when we were discussing whether or not to leave the toys section viewable to the public, the toys may be what brought us together, but the reason we are all here is for the community.

Of course, "I learned it from watching you" might bring forth a whole other uncomfortable line of questioning all together.

 

Well, seeing as I did walk in on my parents when I was in ~4th grade, I will just happily blame it on them. :'D

I agree though, Murphy. What made me mostly uncomfortable with the old forums is how NSFW some things were treated. Granted, it WAS a sex toy community. It's just nice to have the SFW things too so you can browse the forums and chat with people while you're out in about, without having all those nosey people looking at your phone or laptop or whatever like: "What'cha doin'? OH MAN WHAT IS THAT????" Oh you know. Probably some furry porn avatar or brony butt or somethin'.

I couldn't care less but I'm still super shy about what people see that I'm into. XD

 

I just want to poke in and say that the community, while on of the main reasons we're here, isn't the only reason. We're also here so we can be a bit more free from some of the rules of BD (such as them muting/banning people who says the f word), and so we can let loose our perverted side. So, having said that, I feel the best way is a SFW mode, rather than asking people to change their avatars. That is all I am going to say.

 

I have no problem with NSFW avatars but I personally don't see the point of separating NSFW and SFW sections of the forum if avatars are going to supersede that.

 

Being free of BD's rules is simply a bonus of being here. The reason this forum exists was to preserve the community we thought would be deleted. It had nothing to do with shunning them or their rules.

I'm sure that the reason we have a more active forum here isn't because we have less rules, but because we have a better community.

I think that instead of giving the entire community a blindfold to avoid seeing penis, we should instead ask those one or two people to put on some undies in public.

 

That may have been the reason this was made and why we came, but I was talking about why we stayed. I said the community was a big part of it, but that it wasn't the only reason. And as far as the adding a SFW mode, that was all just my own opinion, I wasn't stating it like a fact.

 

This is a forum /originally/ based on our sex lives.
If you choose to come on here in public/at work, or whatever...that is your risk. You KNOW the origins and nature of the site and the people who use it. Yes, there are 'sfw' threads, but even those tend to have a few naughty parts in them? ('What is on your mind thread' for example.)

Also, just a pet peeve of mine...but if you are at work you shouldn't be on your phone/personal sites....there's a time and place for that sort of thing and people seem to have a hard time comprehending that.

 

I think we're talking about accessing the website while on break or during lunch hour, or in circumstances that aren't specifically "work" but the term "sfw" is the most convenient label: like browsing on a bus or in front of roommates. Plus, there are some jobs where it's okay to read a book or websurf during downtimes when there are no customers.

But yes, I agree: as much as I might find it handy to have a sfw option, it is a sex forum. I figure it's a question of what do most people want: Is this a wild party where we specifically showed up because anything goes, and it's silly and nonsensical to expect people to "cover up"? Or is it a civil gathering with a wild party in the back room, and it's reasonable to ask people to keep the two separate? *shrug* I have a preference, but I don't personally have enough reason to push very strongly in either direction.

 

Doesn't matter to me either way, my avatar is fully clothed. Plus the character is far to prudish, he'd never strip down

I've been thinking, and I see the arguement for asking for SFW avatars. At this point though, I only know of one user with a NSFW avatar: @CreativeNameHere
Do you know of anyone else with a NSFW avatar, because if it's just one, it's not really a huge deal, I don't think? At least for now.

On topic: I think implementing a SFW mode would make more sense than asking current (and new) members to refrain from NSFW avatars (on a sex toy based community site.) Do they need to use NSFW avatars? No, but they should have the option. The onus (of keeping their browsing habits "acceptable" for their current environment e.g. work) should be on whomever decides to browse here outside of the privacy of their home/room.

Give options to those that want to browse in public, but are worried about prying eyes. Don't take current options away from community members.
