As far as I know, Gems can only undergo a major change and maintain it after poofing. A complete anatomical rework would probably count for that. And they did periodically battle normal gem monsters I imagine.

    So, saw the latest episode.

So, we learned a few things again this episode. We found out that even within the homeworld-alligned gems, the same kind of gem can have a massive range of personalities. We also learned that homeworld has external-field warp drives. (The kind that our current real-world scientists think are possible.) We found out that Jasper is being hunted, and Peridot isn't. I do wonder why they lied about Jasper's whereabouts though...

We also found out that gems are not inherently hostile to humans, and that they also can't recognize humans versus gems on sight. (Though this could be a matter of the Rubies being "stupid")

Oh, and we had another example of the yellow glasses. They seem to be worn by the mission commander, which confirms that Peridot was indeed the mission commander on the hand as she believes.

Is anyone keeping up to date ? I just finished watching 'Bismuth' and maaaan that had me on the verge of tears.
Also stoked that the lady who voices her is the same one who plays 'crazy eyes' in OITNB !

*rolls out from under the bed*
I have far too much emotional whiplash from these past few episodes
    1) I was more than upset about how they ended things with Bismuth. Its been a thing in the fandom that people immediately associate beefy gems as Bad and the Bismuth episode just felt like it justified the idea, so I really hope they fix that, because I don't enjoy the message "Physically imposing women are not to be trusted"
    2) Lapis and Peridot are just the best thing to happen to that barn. Its home for them now and it makes me so happy. I also like how Lapis, despite not being fully recovered from her trauma, doesn't just spiral into a pit of self loathing and actively tries to keep bonding with others. Its like "You don't have wait until you feel cured to be included in things"
    3) Jasper. I have no words. Too many folks try to boil her character down to basic villain, but shes so much more complicated than that. Nothing shes ever done has been for objectively evil purposes. Shes a loyal soldier who believes in her people and trying to do what everyone tells her is the right thing to do. Her only reason for returning to earth was to get payback for Rose killing the one gem she cared about the most. Its almost obsessive just how much gems seem to care about their Diamond's and Jasper's "love" for hers seemed immeasurable.
    4) Amethyst. I've said so on tumblr, but this girl seems to have the least linear character progression out of everyone. Shes always getting built up then knocked back down and I think its starting to dawn on her that shes not nearly as strong as she believed herself to be. She emerged long after all the wars, probably had to learn to use her weapon all by herself, and until recently has never fought and won against a fully functional gem, just monsters.
    5) Smoky Quartz. I am so confused as to how their fusion is a thing. Like the two of them obviously each have their own issues with not Feeling Up To Par, but I feel as though Amethyst really doesn't love herself as opposed to Steven who emits love like a 100watt bulb. I would have expected their fusion to be much more asymmetrical and less cohesive.

    6) The 5ubies. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh I love those little shits. Top faves are Navy and Eyeball

I love that a yo-yo is being used for its proper purpose a weapon.
I think Bismuth is a victim of the war. If see your friends constantly being destroyed by an enemy all that hate will focus, harden, and take shape. She just lost her way.
The episode of Peridot hunting a corrupt gem was Looney tunes. Watch a Road Runner episode and start listing comparisons.
Oh Peridot's power. She really needs to practice. She needs a collection of ball bearings

Eh, to be fair though, I think the main reason that they had Bismuth looking so imposing is because she's a blacksmith and a metal gem, not because she was "bad". Like, her build made sense BEFORE she was revealed as a bad character, but I do get where you're coming from.

Yeah, definitely love Lapis and Peridot. Along the lines of what you're talking about, I'm really enjoying Peridot's spiral of self-loving.

Holy shit with Jasper. I only saw it coming at the last minute. The fact that she became so obviously desperate shows her dedication to what she thinks of as right.

I think the biggest revelation with Amethyst is that she was supposed to be just like Jasper. The episode with the Rubies gave us a good glimpse at what she could have come out as, and I see the similarities a lot more clearly now.

I dunno what you're talking about with Smoky Quartz being asymmetrical. I guess you mean more like Garnet originally was? I can see that, but Steven and Amethyst were already familiar with and accustomed to fusing, so they may have been able to sort out their appearance better than Sapphire and Ruby could when they fused.

Something I'm really interested in with Smoky Quartz is how Connie is going to react. I can imagine there will be an episode where she finds out and gets a bit jealous or upset.

Yes. The yo-yo was so absolutely perfect. It felt like the stars aligned so well on that one.

I find it interesting that Peridot's powers don't involve magnetism, because that would've probably fried her tablet.

When I wasn't screeching, I was howling for sure.

Some folks didn't seem to like it based on it being Filler Fluff, but honestly, those are the types of episodes that put flesh on the bones of characters. Imo, I think this was a relationship building episode between Amethyst and Pearl. Not in the romantic sense per say, but more of deconstructing some of Amethyst's preconceived notion of Pearl being a Goody Two Shoes TM and stickler for the rules. In fact, this episode centered on Pearl loosening up and letting go, while the past few Amethyst episodes have been about her needing to shape up and be more serious. Its like we're watching the characters even out their personality extremes in real time. All that being said, I do hope to see Mystery Girl again, but I can't think of plot relevant reasons for it to happen (some suggest that shes an undercover gem, but that's a little reachy for me)

It almost felt like the writers wanted to shut up all the "Oh, it's not REALLY endorsing gayness because they're aliens who don't have different genders" people. That being said, I do think we'll be seeing mystery girl again, and I'm excited to find out why.

I love the moment when Steven told Pearl, "You're a criminal now."
"Oh, Steven. I've been a criminal for 5,000 years."

I screamed, YES!! at my screen

So I've been rewatching SU from the very beginning with a friend who hadn't seen a single episode. I get Garnet's goofy smile when I know what's going to happen and I can feel my friend "holy shitting" internally from across the room.

This is great. Plus I'm catching a lot more stuff than I did with the first run-through.
