Somewhat game related, but I've been reading the Book of Sorrows from Destiny and listening to Sounds of Silence.

The Book of Sorrows makes me a little sympathetic to Oryx, and Sound of Silence can be an interpretation of Oryx's "quest."

This week is 10 years since the announcement of Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

    Still waiting...

Here's some of the concept art we've received over the decade of waiting. There were six years between Half-life 1 and 2. How much longer can we wait for this series, published by an active and successful company which produces new games nearly every year, before we just forget that it even exists?

Point proven: I had forgotten about it. I played Half-life for a bit, wasn't my game. I was too busy playing Unreal Tournament G.O.T.Y.E (UT '99).

The new GTA Online DLC lets you run you own criminal empire by buying, selling, and... other ways of obtaining illicit contraband. Basically becoming a black market UPS.

Quick! Someone help me think of a professional yet dirty sounding company tagline!

Haven't been able to play any video games lately. Can't really play either of my Xboxes. Both controllers for my Xbox One are useless. The cam one bricked itself when the internet disconnected while it was updating, a few months after I bought it. The one that came with it has the right bumper stuck and refuses to stop. So that machine is unusable. I can't afford $60 for a new controller. My Xbox 360 randomly turns itself off and on. I'll start it up and anywhere between 1 minute to an hour it'll just shut off. Most of the time immediately after it logs in. Other times it will turn itself on 5 times a day. It's as if something is over the sensor inside it. I tried taking it apart, not easy or entirely successful. I could see under the cover of the power switch, from the side, but it wasn't clear if there was anything on it. I don't have a can of compressed air so I blew on it with a straw. Put it all back together and it didn't seem to make much difference. However, if I have gone through about 50 times of it shutting off after I turn it on, it seems to stay on. It's irritating. I'll get the damned thing to stay on after fucking with it for an hour and then I have to quit because I'm needed elsewhere. Errrg.

Then there's my PC games. I haven't been able to pay my WoW subscription in a while. I'm missing it. Then I can't play Skyrim because Win 10 did something to Administer control over it and it won't save my games. Everything I've done to regain control has failed. I may have to risk a reinstall. Sigh.

I have the original PC version of Magic The Gathering that had an adventure mode that was kinda neat. Being able to build a deck with the really old cards that go back before Fallen Empires, is pretty awesome. Since my mouse is a little jacked up, it's hard to play much of anything with any action. The left button double and triple clicks or doesn't at all. Anyway, being broke sucks. I am so far behind on any new games I want. Most of them aren't even new anymore.

Look through yard sales, you should be able to find a decent (if old) mouse for under five bucks.

    ETA: Also, check thrift stores.

Anyone else kinda, disappointed in darksouls 3? There are only a few poor design choices, but they show up throughout the ENTIRE game and makes it just ehhh

Oh, wow. Cathouse Tale was bad enough but that too? I mean, I only played a little bit of Breeding Season where it was uploaded to E621 last year, and I really wasn't very impressed...but still. If I recall right Mittsies was associated with that project, I don't know what they had to do with this fiasco and I'm not personally a fan of them, but if they played a part in it's downfall, there's gonna be some hard feelings going around.

downloaded the games on demand version of the old gamecube resident evil. nostalgia boner activate! I still remember playing it as a kid and getting the shit scared out of me the first time a crimson head popped up

on another note, I wonder if Nintendo even gives a shit about metroid anymore. metroid prime and prime 2 are two of my most favorite games, I never played 3 because I think the wii and motion controls are gimmicky as fuck, and the original wii seemed to be based primarily around party games than serious blockbuster titles

You should definitely play Prime 3: Corruption, it has a more mission-ish feel to it, less of an adventure around a planet and zones, more of a series of sequences, most involving a target and a lot of great puzzles. Less wandering, more concise, and you really get to enjoy the feeling of having a badass spacefighter to take you places and create opportunities. The boss battles aren't just big set pieces, they're really original fights with really dynamic characters that make you not just feel like a fighter, but a badass. Out of the series, I'll give the credit for best end boss to Prime II: Echoes, but Corruption has so much great stuff spread around, even with Wii controls I found it a lot of fun. It's the least frustrating set of Wii controller gimmicks I can recall, and once it was familiar, all I could think about was how much I wished Prime I and II had used them. So I bought the collector's edition, which contains all three games, adapted for the Wiimote!

I do want to play it but I don't see myself spending the money on a wii for one game. I kind of like the exploration adventure type dynamic where there's a massive world with different zones and while you can see how to get to the next area and you can try to get to it you aren't able to until you find a certain upgrade or other path to it. I think it's the more open but still sequential story that made me like games like resident evil and dark souls so much because it isn't just a linear path and even if you need to get to one location you can take multiple different paths to get there

As someone who has played some of the first-person Metroid games for Wii (I don't remember which ones exactly), I can say that the motion controls are in no way gimmicky, and the games are actually designed really well around it. I never once got frustrated by the motion controls either. It becomes totally second nature pretty fast, and when you lose, you know it was your fault. Everything is pretty well balanced as far as difficulty goes. Only problem is the "where do I go" issue that most Metroid games suffer from, but even that is better in 3D because the world is so immersive. Probably one of my favorite games of all time.
