Agreed. Heck, where I work, I just phone in when I'm sick and it's fine 100% of the time. Then again, my place seems to be odd in that it doesn't try to reschedule people to cover shifts. Schedules are set, and if someone can't make it, we all play catch-up. Sometimes asking a part-time worker to stay longer on their scheduled shift to make up the difference.

finally sat down and started playing with free cad since my student license for solidworks ran out a few months ago and I WILL NOT pay a ridiculous amount of money to keep it and I'm not going to pirate a several thousand dollar piece of software. free cad is really similar to solidworks with a lot of the tools but I still need to find out how to add dimensions to sketch elements

Try QCAD, Not expensive and I've been quite happy with it.

Yeah, mine too. We must call or notify them on line, give a reason, and then record an approval number. It is left to the shift manager to decide if they want to find a replacement. In maintenance, we typically have 6 people, so missing one person is tolerable.

Why do people assume all furries are into orgies.

Jesus some of us are into it because we can express our creative side.

took a look and it looks interesting. the issue I have is I learned on solidworks so I immediately tend to start thinking up designs in a 3D program. Qcad looks nice but I know it would take me a while to transition from 3D models to being able to keep everything straight in 2D line drawings. I did figure out the dimensions tool in freeCAD, it's just under a seperate menu. instead of automatically opening the full sketch tools panel when a new sketch is started like in solidworks you have to manually switch to it after starting the sketch and then it can be a little clunky but usable. no matter what it's gonna be a learning curve to start using a new program. my biggest issue is eventually finding a good CAM program I can import files into if I do get a CNC setup. I'd like a CAD/CAM combo program but all the free/open source ones look like they wouldn't work too great. I'm relatively new to a lot of this stuff but I at least have the basics so I can understand a lot of it and learn it quickly.

eventually I want to have a little CNC mill/drill and lathe setup so I can do some intricate parts for hobbies and knife making, first thing I should focus on though is an electric heat treating furnace for small to medium sized stock. unfortunately even the small cheap ones that are worth getting almost all run around $1000+. I could always just do differential edge heat treatment using a fire brick furnace and map gas but that doesn't give amazing results if you're trying for a professional end product

I'd guess because of limited media exposure other than stereotypes and extreme news stories where that's exactly what happens. most people assume all furries have fursuits since that's all they focus on when they show a furcon on the news.

Did not even think about 3D stuff, every thing I do is in 2D lol

a lot of people I've talked to that learned originally on 2D hate using 3D and a lot of the people who learned on 3D hate using 2D. I can see the benefit of each, especially considering if you aren't going to be doing 3D machined parts but I will say it is nice to have an assembly tool so after designing brackets and plates and stuff you can put it together and see if anything needs to be changed before making the parts. solidworks had a troubleshooter to help fix collision errors. I love that program but fuck it's expensive, one license is $3995 and the annual (as in you pay every year, wtf?!) subscription for tech support and upgrades is $1295. it's really no wonder so many shops that use it have a pirated copy or just copy it and violate the license agreement

I was walking around town yesterday and I saw that the only video rental place here closed, in it's place will be another fitness center.

That's the 3rd fitness center here in Moultrie now.

Also, I think a tiny spider bit my arm

the cheap pop up fitness center invasion has begun! lol my town has that same problem, we've had a ton of crossfit gyms open and almost immediately fail so now there are a ton of empty storefronts that originally were restaurants or other businesses that were gutted to make gyms but nobody wants to spend the money torenovate and replace everything that was torn out by the last tenants

made some homemade lasagna. pro tip: if you're going to use italian sausage, crush up some fennel seeds and mix it into the sausage before cooking it. it adds a lot to the flavor

not looking forward to tomorrow, another foreman has the week off and once again I'm the only other person who can drive, only one guy on the crew speaks english, and they all treat me like shit even though I've never done anything to them and try to at least say hello in the mornings. this'll be a fun week

You should lick something unpleasant and get a doctor's note. They'll see your importance.

I gave my 2 weeks last Friday so I'm trying to be able to make as much money as possible before I quit, meaning no sick days. they're already collectively shitting their pants since they don't have anyone else there with a clean driving record, no DUIs, or a non-suspended license except the foremen, and if any of them leave again once I'm gone they're gonna have to have someone running two crews, which I did the other week and it's no fun. considering the wife of the foremen I had to fill in for last week on a few days is still deathly ill in the hospital, he's likely to be gone again. if I get stuck having to run 2 or 3 crews and do an entire route on my own as well I'm going to have some choice words for the management, I'm already pissed they've pulled me off a lot of interesting jobs to fill in for other people because I wanted to learn how to do pavers, wire up the irrigation valves and wire/program the clocks and I got pulled off every opportunity to learn that

one thing I should add is my manager already asked if I would come back next summer and hinted at a raise and possibly being in charge of my own crew.

Ooh, gonna take him up on it? Also, does being in charge of your own crew mean you get say in hiring decisions?

management does all hiring, but if I were a foreman I could fire people or at least kick them off my crew if they don't do shit. I kind of doubt they would give me a raise considering there are some guys that have worked there for over 10 years and only gotten a dollar raise when they finally became a foreman, then again they did have a few guys that did really good work who quit due to crap pay that went to work for another landscaping company that pays better and they ended up offering them a hefty raise to get them back because they were some of the few employees that actually work hard. I kinda don't want to work there again because the pay is shit for how hard I work and how much shit I put up with, I could probably make more as a driver for a local welding and fabrication company since most of their employees have the same problems (DUIs, suspended license, unable to get a license due to citizenship status, parole and how it affects insurance) it would look good on a resume to have more job experience there and show I'm willing to be a return employee, but at the same time fuck that shit, it's better than when I was washing dishes but it's still shit work for shit pay while the company makes over $10K for just about every medium to large landscaping job we do while we get barely 1% each in our wages
