Yes, while I did upgrade to Win 10, I would want to on my own terms. I do not like programs telling me what I can and cannot have on my computer. Like AVG. It won't wont run if you happen to have another antivirus on your system. It's tells you to close it. No, I can't close it, and you know damn well I can't close it. You want me to delete it, you fucking possessive little dick! So it's no surprise I don't use AVG anymore.
But you forcing an upgrade is not the best way for companies to go about things. From their financial POV, it's great. From consumer perception of the company, they are being total asshats.

Where are you getting "forcing" from?

Unrelated, after a little bit of bug swatting, I'd say I'm pretty okay with Win 10. Seems like what they SHOULD have done for Win 8.

my computer upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 without me giving it any clearance to do so, no implied "your system will update in 4 days" nothing of the sort. one day it's asking me if I want to update to 8.1, I tell it no, the next day it does it as soon as start it up and doesn't have a rollback

i'm in 8.1, i don't particularly remember granting permissions either. but i don't remember any gamebreaking changes. there are some features that annoy me, but getting a 7 computer now will be very hard.

i am sticking with my 8.1 though. i'm not biting for 10, and possibly becoming unable to play my games or use photoshop. plus i don't want to be the product (if you're using a free service, you're the product as they say).

and as a word on antivirus, i use Webroot and it's awesome, and not too expensive ($30 a year i think) and it's caught viruses the second they were discovered, and even do it in the background. it's caught 20-some viruses for me. (where said viruses come from, i don't know)

Oh, no worries on virus's or malware, I'm pretty careful where I click.
*OOO SHINY AN' FREE* CLick click click!

But no, I pretty much use free programs because I'm cheap and not getting paid from work. So i use paint.net instead of photoshop, malware bytes and avast for my anti-virus. Some people say it sucks, but for the way I use the computer it works.
Bow my screensaver doesn't work with 10. Yet anyway.

true. i check now and again, and since i have been using adblock on all but a few choice sites, i haven't had any problems.

also on a side note, Skype desktop does have very annoying ads, and you can remove them. it involves two simple things- adding Skype ads to restricted sites, and going into the Skype config and deleting a couple lines (to get rid of the ad spaces)

Not a windows 10 thing, but a general windows thing...

Anyone know a good photo viewer program that ALSO supports .gif files?

not a single thing. i either open in-browser (i dunno if Win10 does that?) or use photoshop to play gifs.

Eeeh, I really don't want to have to though. I mean, it supported gifs in XP, why did the functionality disappear?

Actually that is a Windows thing. XP allowed it 8 and 8.1 did not... I don't know about 7. It's not an accident or bug, this was intentional... something about copywrite or some stupid reason they don't support it. I liked being able to clcik the right arrow and go from a jpg to a gif and have it actually "play". But no, instead I have to open a new window (I use a browser to view them) for that one.
It's my main gripe. Seriously, I just want to enjoy my porn with ease, is that so wrong?

I can recommend irfanview for image viewing, it worked quite well for me and it's quite robust as well. There's another, more minimalist image viewer I used to know of but I've forgotten what it's called.
