Firstly I am a male, so when I say "safely" I'm worried more about blowing out my asshole than I am about damaging the toy in this thread. (I have read BD's Toy Caresheet so I don't expect issues there.) Secondly, I haven't actually been penetrated by anything larger than my fingers or a toothbrush, so I'm a novice at toying with my ass and I'm about as afraid of damage as I am eager to try it out. Thirdly, I don't know how often I'll be using it, I might want days or weeks between each use while I'm still learning, I might turn into an anal slut if I fall in love with it, your guess is as good as mine.

Here's what I think I know so far: soft firmness, small size toys are probably the least likely to do any permanent or hospital worthy damage, although I know even small BD toys are still on the larger side for objects to go inside ones anus. I'm thinking of ordering a small & soft Tucker when custom orders open up again, and since that has a knot I know I need to be especially careful with it, and that an abundance of lube is the way to go. Does anyone have any other tips to keep my rear in one piece and outside of a hospital/injury? Also, does anyone have any insight on if the rumors/risks of permanent anal stretching and leaking are true? As eager as I am to sit on something like small Tucker or an Austin, I don't really like the idea of ruining my anus for good since I can't just get a new one of those from BD. I'm new here & to this sort of thing so forgive my rookie education on this stuff.

Howdy! I'm also new! The only thing I can say to you is that taking your time and listening to your body are top priority. Also, a quick "cleaning" after a session helps a lot with most post session "leaks." The only big thing I can tell you is use the sizing chart that BD offers and understand what you can handle. So basically "Don't let your eyes be bigger than your hole" is such a true statement that you could hear over and over again and always be true. Lastly, I can take a 2'4 diameter after some warmup and have fun frequently, I don't really have any looseness after a little bit of post rest and within a couple of days I pretty much go right back to square one and have to warmup on smaller BD before I can move back up. Hope my little bit of experience can help you out! Good luck!

Can you elaborate on "A quick 'cleaning' helps with most post-session 'leaks'?" When I said leaks I was afraid of involuntary leaking of bowels or something akin to that, I've heard that BD toys are particularly easy to hurt yourself with, and long-term damage is what I'm afraid of. Although it's probably a good sign that you tighten back up, I hope that trend continues even with long-term use.
As for the rule of thumb on size, I hear ya, I don't think I'd put anything larger than a small inside me off of BD's size chart, at least not for a long time if at all. BD makes some really big dicks...

My apologies, post cleaning usually means a quick enema (at least to me that's what it means) and leaks would be left over lubricant's inside your system. As for long term, currently I am at a few months of my experience and always within a few days I completely go to the beginning of progress. At the end of it all this is just my experience and there are many people here who would be happy to share there advice and experiences as well!

Is it necessary to enema after every time I use the toy? Personally I don't think I'd mind the lube leaking out all too much as long as nothing else leaks out with it, and the BD cum lube says it's non-toxic. I wanna start my experiences very soon so that's why I'm gathering the necessary information now, so that I can jump on the next custom order before they're gone again!

It's not necessary to enema after playing, except if you've used a large amount of lube and it's leaking.

Tucker has a blunt head and probably in't the best choice for your first toy. I recommend a tapered head.

I recommend a medium firmness to start. Soft can be too soft, and Firm can be too firm. Medium is the usual recommendation for beginners.

Stop using objects like a toothbrush, that's more dangerous than using Bad Dragon toys.

There's a lot of ignorance and misinformation in your post ("rumors/risks of permanent anal stretching and leaking", etc) and there is too much information to cover here. I'm guessing that most people won't want to write 6 paragraphs explaining the basics to you. Do some research on this topic, there are books and websites dedicated to the topic.

Well the toothbrush only happened once a long time ago but that's good to know, guess I got real lucky then.

Your point about Tucker's head makes sense to me, but can you elaborate on your firmness recommendation? I would've thought soft is the most forgiving to work with.

Would you happen to know any of those books/websites? I tried a quick Google search but ultimately came across conflicting information in posts on other forum sites, which confused me and led me to just making my own post here. I have no problem reading through some sources since nobody wants to write an essays worth of explanations.

    Hey there!
After I've read about you considering Tucker (which is not the very best for a beginner) Austin came to my mind and I just saw you already mentioned him in your first post. In my opinion Austin is an excellent choice! You just have to be aware of his lenght.
I have a mini one in medium firmness. It's short enough to just barely touch the sigmoid bend (more of a topic for when you really get in touch with anal) but long enough to have fun with it. And because of his knot you can even wear him as a plug. The base is not that massive (especially with a suction cup, mine has one as well) so nobody would notice it under clothes and it doesn't affect daily chores other than being a bit hornier while doing them. :D
Medium is a good way to go since it is already a little floppy, so I don't want to imagine how floppy a soft one would be. It is just more time consuming getting a soft toy inside your hole than a medium one that knows what it wants. :)
And medium for sure is forgiving enough, don't worry about it hurting or injuring you.
You seem to be a little bit too scared of damage by doing anal, but as long as you use enough lube and go slow at the beginning, you're good.
You know and will feel what's best for your body.
To conclude, something about your concern about permanent stretching, that's not going to happen.
You're still a beginner who will use small toys. Short after you had your fun your anus will look like you never did anything to it.
I'm in the small toys size range myself and can therefore speak from experience.

Yeah I am a novice to all this and the overcautious type when I don't know what I'm getting into, and like the other user Feverdream said I have a lot of ignorance and misinformation on the matter, but that's why I'm here after all. Hearing multiple accounts of experience dispels some of those fears swiftly, so as long as I'm careful then I shouldn't have to worry about anything.

If medium firmness is still sorta floppy, how floppy is soft?

Austin is fine too since he's my second choice so I'm sure he'll be plenty fun to ride on. How much experience does one need to take a toy like Tucker? Tucker was my first pick because I thought his shape was a good compromise between Austin's knot and Chance's shape & girth since I'm probably only getting one dildo for a while.

I don't know the measurements of Tucker right now, but I know I've considered him, too wven I was looking for my first toy and realised it would be too big. I can look into it tomorrow when I'm back home.

Tucker's head is flat, so it's harder to get that toy started. Your hole has to go from zero to 60 in a split second, if you know what I mean.

You should order the sample firmness discs, when you buy a toy, so you can get an idea of what they feel like. Medium is a good compromise because it's still a little soft, but doesn't collapse so easily under pressure like Soft. If you're used to using your fingers (which are pretty firm) then Medium shouldn't be a big deal.

I would also recommend Nox which is a fun shape and beginner friendly. There's no knot, but Nox has a bulge or swell which is fun to use (compared to a toy which is totally flat). Medium firmness Nox is a common recommendation for beginners.

You should just try Googling "anal health sex risks" and words like that, and see what comes up. Even the people using the biggest toys don't damage themselves under ordinary circumstances. You (using the smallest toys) are in no danger, as long as you are playing smart: lots of lube, take your time, etc.

Look around in this forum, you won't see any posts saying "I stretched my hole too far" or anything like that.

If I were you I would get a 100% silicone toy in a small size first, instead of a Bad Dragon toy (which are pretty expensive and more of a commitment). I would not make Bad Dragon my first toy. It's like making your first motorcycle a Harley Davidson, which are more for experienced riders. Start with something less expensive, IMO.

Yeah I get what you mean, I saw on the size chart that Tucker's shaft is very comprable to his knot, and his head is thicker, so that's no surprise how that'd be real rough for a beginner. Nox doesn't look very exciting to me personally, a knot is sort of a must for any choice I make, another user in this thread, RearBear, says that Austin is an "excellent choice", the head looks easier to work with than Tucker's and has 3/4 inch less usable length but that's all fine by me since 5.5 inches is still an upgrade from my fingers and therefore plenty.

This is gonna come across as an ignorant question but it is genuine: are the sample discs really all that helpful? I mean it's one thing to have a small disc you can squish and feel in your hands but I feel like it'd still be a different story to your butthole. I'm also unsure they'd tell the whole story anyway, like user RearBear said his medium firmness Austin is already a little floppy but I'd think that has something to do with the size + weight of it which are qualities that would be absent from the small discs since they're only a sample. I understand why they sell them though, it's a much better solution than simply buying a toy only to end up not liking it's firmness or lack there of. I don't know, I would've thought that conferring with the community would negate the necessity for purchasing and waiting for the samples to ship and possibly missing the next window of opportunity custom orders open up, but I suppose at the end of the day everyone has their own opinions and one's own could defer from the general consensus.

As someone into vehicles I get the point of the metaphor, although similarly with engine work I find the best way I personally learn is to dive in head first, however machines are admittedly much easier to care for than a living body is, especially when that machine comes with an owner's manual containing everything exactly as it's inside the vehicle. However, my preferences have led me to wanting a Bad Dragon toy, specifically that being a knotted toy, as previously mentioned, and I've heard BD is simply the best place, and I also intend to get a masturbator along with the dildo so convenience is definitely a factor that decision. I'm no stranger to commitment though, I intend to keep them very well maintained while I'm not using them and try to go the extra mile where I can after reading the toy caresheet, like having a dedicated toy box, keeping them in a dry towel, short fingernails, etc. to avoid any potential damage, some of that doesn't deviate from my business as usual since long nails would hurt inside me, so I wouldn't say getting them would be a drastic lifestyle change for me so much as an additional few chores to add to my list and stay on top of. I suppose it'll take some more setup to have fun at home than just using my fingers but at the tradeoff of being more fun I think it's worth it personally.

I'll be sure to search that up and read around to find anything that you haven't mentioned or something that elaborates on the things that you have mentioned. I don't intend to be too rough with my ass until I'd consider myself experienced with toys in it and maybe not even then, I wouldn't dream about rushing it or going dry or something crazy like that! I suppose that's all obvious stuff though, perhaps the Google search could shed some light on something that I misunderstand or haven't yet considered.

I own the sample discs and they are somewhat helpful, you get a good touch of how the different firmnesses feel, how much you can compress them and how much they bend. Generally medium is always a good choice. The other firmnesses are more of a personal preference. When you get your first toy in medium, you can imagine that soft is just a little softer, so more floppy and easy to compress whereas firm is much stiffer. So after getting your first toy the sample discs aren't really necessary. They're useful when you get them before ordering your first toy.

When I ordered from Bad Dragon for the first time, I bought a masturbator and a dildo that was too big for me which was frustrating, so be sure to take something you're able to have fun with. Tomorrow I can send you a picture of my Austin next to something so you get to see how big it is in reality if you want.

Even for experienced users, there's some trial and error when making a purchase. That's why the Sales threads are so active - those people are not all noobs, a lot of them are experienced users. Sometimes, toys you might expect to like, turns out you don't like as much as you'd hoped. There are lots of size miscalculations when making purchases, too. You should just make your best guess, with the idea that you'll probably own a couple of different toys in the end (or even several toys), and a little bit of a variety is good. For example, a toy that's on the small side could still be useful as a warmup toy later (etc).

That all makes sense, I guess I'll order the sample discs with my first toy in medium and go from there. I have a tape measure so I have some idea of how big the mini Austin is in person, but if you think it'll help then go for it.

I'd love to have more than one BD dildo but that's a long term wish since they're pricey. Though it would be nice to have a slightly larger toy in my collection once my asshole can take it after getting accustomed to the first toy. Buying a secondhand toy seems real weird to me though, I understand why they do it but I wouldn't do it myself

Well thanks to everyone who posted in this thread! I felt confident enough to buy a dildo when customs opened up so I got a mini medium Austin! I wouldn't have done it without the advice from you guys!

I was gonna get both in "Wicked" but since Austin was a mini I couldn't make him Wicked, so I got him in black & gold instead
