The basic idea of this thread is to discuss (and perhaps) critique the many films out there. I know I can't be the only movie buff out there. So, what's your favorite movie/film? Any exceptional movies that are rarely seen or heard of? Since I started it, I'll start with the newest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movie. It was...surprisingly not bad. I was almost expecting it to be a train wreck, but it actually turned out to be a pretty good movie. There were a number of good homages, but nothing heavy handed. If you are a fan of the TMNT series, I would actually recommend the movie. Those CGI lips though *shudder* ugh, I wish they would've kept the beaks!
dying to see this absolutely dying. could you possibly add "no spoilers please" to the title of this thread. I wouldn't want to go to see a movie just to be told the ending while browsing this forum, but I think common convention says that if a movie is more than three years old then tough luck if you get spoiled
I will echo the no spoilers comment by Misskin! Edit: Oooooh! A spoiler button is perfect! Great thread idea though! I have tons of favorite movies... most of which have my favorite actors in them, admittedly. I've seen anything and everything Johnny Depp and Heath Ledger. I also love the Daniel Craig Bond movies. And the Lord of the Rings trilogy is also, of course, one of the best things ever, imo.
I'm assuming most, if not all have already seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy movies and/or read the books. I don't think this needs a spoiler warning, but be so warned. I had a very interesting conversation with some friends tonight about why Gandalf and the Fellowship didn't just fly using the giant eagles into Mordor and drop the ring in. I was curious to hear what other people's theories are. Why do you think Gandalf didn't use the eagles?
The Matrix movies will always be my absolute favorite. Favorite comedy is Spies Like Us. New movies eh.. I'm slightly curious if they did any good with Dumb and Dumber To.
I've always enjoyed animated movies over live action for some reason. My favorites and ones I tend to go back to watch over and over are all animated.
I'll get to my favorites in a later post. Right now I'm enjoying the new Godzilla. I've watched it a few times now. I am a fan from way back when I was a kid. I watched the old cartoons, I think it was Hanna-Barbera, when I was a kid. I watched all the old films. I even had that 3ft tall Godzilla toy that had wheels in the feet, and the fiery tongue and one of his fists shot off. Loved that thing. Even played with it in the tub! I have been a fan of everything Godzilla all my life. I EVEN liked the 1998 version that so many people strangely hated. I won't go into that debate. Anyway, the newest version was awesome! I was almost giddy the first time seeing it in the theater. Nah hell, I was as giddy as a school girl! I'm just gonna jump through some of this, cause I don't have all night to talk about it. The only issues I had with the film: 1. It was way too slow of a start to get to the monster I wanted to see. There wasn't enough of him either. 2. Why does a monster that existed millions of years before any kind of machines or technology use an EMP for a weapon? It's useless against the big G, so why? 3. A massively huge creature does not move just under the surface of the water without creating a huge assed wake! In one scene He dove a little deeper to avoid the Aircraft Carrier and as the camera panned over looking down, you could see Him under the water swimming by. The wake behind Him would have just about flipped that carrier. Other than those points, LOVED that movie and can't wait to see the next one...though it'll be 4 years.
Rewatched Public Enemies. I like movies from that era, especially if it's a crime drama. Also The Prestiege.
I don't watch a lot of movies, but my boyfriend has been opening me up to seeing a lot of new ones. It's not that I don't like movies, it's just that I don't usually have a lot of patience to sit for like 2 hours, and I have a habit of getting distracted easily. x.X (no I don't have ADD) However, he has showed me one movie that has quickly become one of my favorites, and it's called 'The Wrestler' Now, it's a Quentin Tarantino movie, so of course it's amazing. In fact, my favorite movie of all time is Requiem For A Dream - it's so spooky and surreal...I love it because it's so easy to see how something like that could just happen to pretty much anybody...it's scary. But The Wrestler I feel like, is on a completely different level. I don't know how he does it, but you connect with the main character so easily. I found myself laughing with him, feeling crushed with him...and by the end I was actually in tears. In fact, every time I watch that movie I dread the end because I can't stop myself from crying. It just...really is an eye opener. Maybe it's because I can sort of relate (obviously not fully) but I, too feel like everything in my life is changing to fast, and I feel out of touch. I, too struggle to feel accepted and to fit in. I, too feel like I don't know who I am anymore. Something about seeing my same emotions played on on screen by a very likable character ... just takes my breath away.
