Don't go alien ware your paying for the name over performance

Your cheapest option is allways self building and in my mind if you can do a jigsaw u can build a pc + there is that meny guides now

Personally if your wanting a gaming rig I'd save up some more money. I built a pretty decent rig that runs most things on ultra @ around 60fps but haven't tried too many new games.. I'm running a x64 amd (4 physical 6 core) with a gaming fan/heatsync a nvidia 6700, 16gb ram and a 1tb HD. With a ok motherboard oh and it's In a Zealand zl11 + case which I've never reli seen above 40c.... Cost me about £850, £900 2 years ago now.

How I did this was go to a custom build website find the specs of your pc you want allow yourself to go a bit over your price as obviously the company has to make money then source the parts yourself you may be surprised

So in trying to slake my anticipation for this computer, I've been doing some research into the matter, comparing CPU/GPU needs to the power of the two.

The FX-6300 is a Hexacore processor that clocks in around 3.5 GHz....the video card is around 625 MHz...and doing some rough comparisons of "x video card to y listed" off of Steam, the video card stands up pretty well. Same for the processor.

Where I get iffy is when I benchmarked the hardware off of a website that has games specifically listed for this sort of deal. The processor...I threw Crysis 2, 3, and Skyrim at it...and it all came back strong (can run at high settings). The Video Card, on the other hand, benchmarked at the 800X600 resolution....came back poorly for those three games (can run on a low/medium setting).

I'm wondering how strongly a processor can influence the performance of a video card (or vice versa).

lol when I read stuff like this, I realize just how little I really know about hardware and software.
My mom thinks im Technology Harry Potter just because I know how to get pics from her phone to her google account or make changes to the Registry when her computer acts funky lol.

    I don't know jack XD

Looking at hardware is like looking at the inside of a human brain to me. If I could build my own rigs, that'd be pretty awesome.

I just know "bigger numbers are usually better".

Yea and no..... They don't directly correlate (I don't think) they each have there own job to do in the pc so each will affect performance of a game because it may be your gx is dealing with pretty but cpu is dealing with phx models and background data..... But each game to its own prime example planetside 2 is gpu heavy so I don't get the best performance out of that but my gx can run most games on high/ultra @60 - 60+ fps

How nerdy do you want? I have my name on a Linux kernel module, a chunk of the Python Standard Library, and somewhere inside the Apache webserver. (I joke that those constitute my contributions to Internet gaming, porn, and the web, respectively.)

I'm currently writing my own programming language.

@Shardik: Writing your own programming language is a whole new level of nerdy ;) What is it for? what could you compare it to? I like to learn!

And yes, I'm a nerd. Not that good with hardware, altough I did build my own pc (and cheated, because my gf picked the parts, she's good with stuff like that). I work for an IT company, and did (do) first, second, third tier support, and grabbing more organising, documentating and managing tasks as I go along. I'm a good helpdesker, but that's mostly because of my social skills. I would like to get more technical background, so I will do some courses (offered by my work) on server managing and stuff in the near future.

Man Alienware PCs are awful things considering how much you pay for them. My university brought us a room full of the things and ever couple of weeks we had to send the damn things in for repairs.

It's a simple transpiler for Lisp -> Javascript syntax. I want to leverage Lisp's homoiconicity into creating new syntaces for reactive endpoints, channels and communicating sequential processes. I have this idea that such a system would make writing web services a lot easier. I also want it to work on PLv8, the embedded NodeJS processor for SQL databases; I think using Lisp macros would allow you to use higher-order stream processors without the row-by-row hit of traditional ones.

Unfortunately, it seems to be way harder than I had anticipated.

    Any ideas on this, guys?
"Just a few hours ago my laptop has been acting up. Delayed mouse input, sound buzzing due to lag, peaks of 50-80% CPU use.
It's barely 6 month old and I only use it for skype facebook and YT, fuck my life."
The lap is on its default settings, no programs at all have been installed. Wednesday, circa 16:40 it was updated. Thursday morning it started all of the sudden with the lag, it seems okay if I don't go watch some vids on YT. If I start watching a vid and then close it, it'll continue lagging.
I'm using an additional fan so it's not hot or anything. My guess is that updates are messing with some driver or performance.
    Thank you in advance ^-^

If it's only YT doing it to you, perhaps it's flash? See if it needs updating. If not, try messing around with video length/quality, or even disable commercials or try a different browser to see if you get different results, and then report back.

-sigh- Just woke up to see how my pc is lagging out of nowhere this time. Now it has 99% peaks in disk use too.
I'm running a full cleaning just to see if it's infected, I doubt it but pfff. Damn you W8.1.

PS: 0 virus, malware, spyware, name it. Runned CCleaner and still nothing. Restored the system to that last update on Wednesday and it seems it's fixed. GG, M$, an update that fucks up a whole computer XDDD
