Today I hae an interview with my boss for the supervisor position in my department; don't wish me luck, I honestly don't want the position. Only applied to show I have the desire to move up. Will suggest at the end of the interview that if there is a better option than me, to consider me to be a shift trainer instead. Training in our department could be vastly improved.

 

I remember watching the original of this soooo much on VHS.

I love being able to feel as well as hear the bass in my music. To the point where I can't stand any sound system now without at least a decent sized subwoofer, especially in cars.

 

I usually don't get anything at cons, but since I've become more active in the furry community and the merchant said she would custom make it for me...

@AkaiKitsune & @Serathaiya : I know a lot of 'old' people that own hot cars, and are rather proficient at driving them. Though I admit, they are members of SCCA, as am I. LOL

 

My boyfriend found out today that he got accepted and fully funded for doing his doctoral work here at school!!! He was so nervous about whether he'd get it. This means he's going to be here the whole time I'm in my master's

One thing I didn't know is that doctoral work is four years If I only do my master's, I'd be out of school three years before him. If everything's on time and I do my PhD, I'd be a year behind him. I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, eh?

 

Lost my T4 to do my income taxes...what a drag.

On the flip side I'm off to meet a potential play partner shortly...

Watched an entire series of an anime called Arpeggio Of Blue Steel last night from start to finish. A new absolute fave. What's not to love about a story featuring a post-apocalyptic world, sentient battleships with futuristic technology and mysterious origins, a side portion of philosophy and some fucking amazing animation?

That wasn't a rhetorical question actually, I'll tell you exactly what. Fucking typical anime tropes. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the show overall, but am I the only one who gets more than a little irritated when an anime has numerous great qualities but still subscribes to silly tropes that we see in loads of anime already? I mean, if you're trying to tell a serious story in a serious manner, doing some stupid and pointless trope purely for the sake of doing it really spoils the atmosphere and immersion.

Quite a few times I found myself like "Wow, this is pretty fucking cool! I need to show it to-" *cue completely random boob and ass shots as the female character starts feeling herself up and moaning at a completely unsuitable moment* "...nevermind". Another moment, I could see the way the scene was being set up and thought "don't fucking do it, I know you're going to do it, don't be that anime" *does it exactly how I expected* "FUCK'S SAKE, that's completely unnecessary, unoriginal, had no plot relevance WHATSOEVER and takes away from the serious tone of the scenes it's involved in". Just...why? I mean, the whole setting and plot is so imaginative and captivating itself, I find it difficult to believe that the people behind the scenes are so creatively bankrupt that they need to include stupid, overdone tropes to carry certain scenes or plot devices through.

I find very little in anime more irritating than a seriously good setup being doused by redundant tropes. Does anyone else (who watches anime, obv) feel the same or is this just me being pedantic again?

 

Naw your good. Especially if they are animes like Attack on Titan, which is very serious action anime.

 

got my sculpture done today, feeling like shit, even more bruising, and more headaches, probably didn't help I got arc-flashed a bunch by another student who's incompetent as fuck and can barely get anything done in a semi-professional manner considering they've had almost half the semester to get a small proposal piece done that should've only taken a week tops but they act like everything they touch turns to gold. they wouldn't have such a massive ego if their ex-boyfriend/artist mentor hadn't manipulated them just to be able to play with their tits in the name of "art". I'm definitely starting to see a few general patterns in how "artists" act, all of them have their baggage, I'm sure I do too. either way I'm tired, grumpy, and probably need more sleep and to avoid inhaling anymore soot

 

Welp, today's gonna be rough at work. Got totally 0 sleep, partially it's my fault as I drank an energy drink in the evening when playing CSGO with @SnowLycan , but there was also a case of parents staying up for way too long with lights and TV on and making noises, plus in the middle of the night, just when I was about to fall asleep, my dog has gone crazy and barked at every sound. And my father of course made a rumble when he was going out to work later, after that I couldn't fall back asleep either. I woke up all sweaty too.

 

Lol told you the energy drink was a bad idea. ;p

I liked AoBS well enough I guess. I never pay attention to the ecchi-material because it's not something I care about. I watch anime for the story.

Also, as for the whole "Using the same tropes over again", well, there's a lot of anime and games and stories that have been made and seen/read/played so far. Kinda gets more and more difficult to be original even when you try, something that I've been finding out. Come up with a "creative idea", someone proceeds to ask me if I've ever read X book or seen Y show, to which the answer is naturally no. Then proceed to hear how many times it's been done before.

 

Fetlife is fucking awesome, I don't know why I was wasting my time with OKC...I found my little niche.

I can't wait to get moved into a new place, I'm gonna take pics like a SOB and toy whenever the hell I want! And bring over whoever the hell I want too...hehehehe~

 

I tried looking into fetlife. Twice. This area is a black hole for that sort of thing. :/ Glad you're having better luck with it than me.

 

So my wife and I are at the hospital. We will be having a baby today! A little sooner than expected but all is good.

 

It's not a case of multiple studios having the same ideas, it's that specific tropes are copied time and time again because "it's the thing to do". "It's anime, so we should do these things", even if there's no justifiable reason to.

I don't really mind ecchi stuff, but when there's a massive fight scene going on and the camera suddenly goes for a panty and bouncing cleavage shot, it's a little jarring to say the least. And I'm also talking about tropes like the same moment replayed from different angles, badass characters being made into animated plushies and the presence of animated plush things in general, the typical dere type characters and the same resulting romances/love triangles, the mandatory "beach episode", etc... IMO, these thing really detract from a serious story and do spoil the experience a little for me.
