    I don't follow.

I've seen some of seasons 1-3. I've seen a fair few episodes where the villian of the week is told what they did wrong and forgiven instead of being eradicated or some such, NMM/Lunda, Discord, the Diamond Dogs I THINK? And of course any of the regular cast gets forgiven for their mistakes.

But then you have Chrysalis who becomes the head astronaut of the Changeling Space Program. Gilda from what I recall is basically told to go away and never come back, from RD who was her old childhood friend. And then Umbra is actually killed. So no, I don't exactly see the characters in the show saying "I'm gonna love and tolerate the SHIT out of you" like I have in the Youtube Comments sections hahaha.

Sombra you mean, not Umbra. Yeah, dude got blowed to bits. Gilda and RD make up later on, in season 5 I believe. Chrysalis, rumored she may reappear in this season.

I do find that last part funny, as its a common thing I say whenever I get into an argument with someone. Mainly for shits and giggles. People get so mad when you tell them that in a joking tone. I giggle like a lunatic everytime.

@scalie @Rassandra Gendal Steven Universe, from what little I saw, is legit LGBT. All the gems are female, except for Steven of course, as far as I can tell. Garnet is made up of two gems, Ruby and Sapphire, who are in love with each other. They straight up made out right in front of Steven and he didn't even bat an eye. I mean full on fondling and giggling. Merging is definitely a sex/relationship metaphor. There was even a heavy handed rape metaphor. Pearl enjoyed merging with Garnet so much (because it made her feel powerful and useful) that she kept rebuilding this tower and saying the villain Peridot did it, knowing that it required their combined power as Sardonyx to destroy it. When Garnet found out she felt so violated.

This is all just from the few episodes in the special event, and they're the only ones I've seen. If the rest of the show is anything like that, the fandom isn't making things up.

they made up a fake cartoon and used it in several references in a few episodes and it looks like a more interesting cartoon concept than anything on actual tv right now

well the only experience I've had with the show was that one episode and the rabid fandom telling people who aren't trans who watch the show that they're appropriating and should kill themselves, so I may not have the whole picture, but I've seen the side of it that makes me cringe away and say "yeeeeaaaah... I don't need this in my life"

The fastest way to ensure you'll never enjoy anything is by getting involved with it's fandom. Loud, attention seeking, vocalizers will be ready in scores to tell you how you're not being a fan the right way and that you're "not intelligent" enough to fully appreciate it. Right behind those folks are the "gate keepers" the people who think its their job to keep the unworthy from polluting the fandom, which is laughable in context with Steven Universe since it focuses on inclusion and respecting people's differences.

I think the big issue with rabid SU fans is that they can't accept it when people say they don't like the show. SU has non nuclear families, 98% female protagonists, gender queer, and lesbian relationships, subjects that are very rarely portrayed positively in mainstream media, so when people say "I don't like that show", the fans are hearing "I don't like non nuclear families, 98% female protagonists, gender queer, and lesbian relationships". SU super fans can't wrap their heads around someone not liking the show, simply because they just don't like it, not because of its content. Its like this one episode of the Golden Girls when Rose met this one lonely man and she decided she wanted to try and be friends with him, but the guy kept giving her the cold shoulder, it wasn't until the end of the episode when Rose had to learn that it doesn't matter if she herself is a friendly and kind person, some people will still not like her and that's okay. People in these fandoms need to realize that no matter how "great" a thing is, there will be some people who don't like it. And. That's. Okay.

I think I remember watching an episode of Steven Universe and hearing one of the characters saying something like the Gems don't have gender, but take on a form they feel comfortable in.

    Or something like that.

You are so right. It's very unfortunate. I've only seen those few episodes so I'm not gonna pose like some expert on SU, but I was just trying to see where @scalie was coming from, and using my limited knowledge to simply inform and discuss. That's how I am with everything. If I'm a fan of something and have knowledge, I like to share and make sure that people make informed decisions about things. That's what knowledge and things you love are for, sharing. It's totally fine if after the discussion they still don't like the thing in question. For example, @Amberina isn't into anime, but I am (although I haven't indulged in quite a while). I wish she was, but I get that it's just not her thing. That's OK though, I've got her little sister. I'm trying to get her to watch some of the cool stuff I've seen and maybe even get Amberina to watch with her. Who knows, it might change her mind. But if not that's fine too.

They sure do. Amethyst (aka The Purple One) loves shapeshifting and ironically her favorite shape is of a big beefy male pro wrestler named The Purple Puma.

I finally found a place to catch up on SU. Most of my family doesn't like SU because it does display a non traditional family. Then the whole fuse with Connie episode. Oh boy that was bad. My dad gave me odd looks for months

But all that I would not call it a flagship show for any movement. The writer found a way to express their ideas of family and relationships in a way others enjoyed. It just the rare example of the "norm" being challenged and everyone tries to make it the hitching post to some movement.

Can't something be good for being good

Chiming in relating to SU and fandom stuff.
Personally, I am a huge fan of SU. I think its a show that is definitely open to alot of interpretation and it keeps an air of mystery about it that i love. Its so subtle. I think it portrays some brilliant messages and morals in a very creative way and its one of the best cartoons I've watched in a long time. I also love how much HEART Rebecca Sugar has put into it. Right down to the soundtrack and art and all the characters and backdrops. Its quite heartfelt and i love that.
On the other hand i can COMPLETELY understand why others dont like the show because it is out there and the humor isnt to everyones taste. But like anything i love, ill mockingly joke they are heathen but i dont genuinely mean it.
Which leads into my other point, i definitely hate the fandom hostility. Its like. Cmon let people like what they want to like for their own reasons! Its not harming you in any way and so childish. I hate when people also get nasty when you like something that they dont and try to shittalk the fandom to an extreme, or as mentioned above already, try to make you feel like youre not worthy of liking something because you havent done/ read/ seen 'X'.
A good example is im getting into the Batman/ general comic scene but i haven't read alot of comics or seen all the movies. And because of this im actually too scared to really talk about irl for fears of that treatment.
Its like the girls cant game scene all over. Ugh.
